Job Description

The Population Council seeks applications from highly experienced, active and self-motivated Program Manager.  The Program Manager will manage, and coordinate activities related to multiple projects at the Population Council, including programs related to girls’ education and girls’ migration and migration decision-making.  The program manager will provide overall coordination of project activities, ensuring effective coordination and harmonization between partners and project staff.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as project manager for multiple projects in Ethiopia, coordinating and leading internal meetings and partners’ meetings to ensure harmonization and standardization of approaches.
  • Oversee timely implementation of project activities, ensuring that all project activities adhere to workplan and timelines.
  • Ensure standardization of approaches across regions and common understanding of all project staff.
  • Ensure project-level compliance with local laws and regulations including reporting to government partners at the regional and federal level.  Ensure timely and up-to-date reporting of all project activities and compliance with project agreement.
  • Manage all contractual agreements between the Population Council and service providers, vendors and landlords, including review of contacts and interface/consultation with -in-country legal advisors.  Ensure that all contracts are up-to-date.
  • Supervise a limited number of project and administrative staff ensuring staff efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out program and administrative duties.
  • Take the lead in drafting project agreements with regions and federal level as needed.
  • Support the Country Director in undertaking fundraising and drafting proposals for the country office.
  • Support the Country Director in drafting research protocols and donor reports.
  • Represent the Council at various consultative meetings as required.
  • Support the Country Director in management and supervision of country office operations, as requested.
  • Other tasks as may be requested by your supervisor.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree or PhD in management or related field and a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
  • Excellent multi-tasker and manager of activities, able to manage a large number of tasks and people across projects.
  • Strong communication skills and English language writing skills as well as strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively with national and international colleagues.
  • Ability to work and in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment
  • Willingness to travel extensively within Ethiopia, as required.
