Job Summary

The dump truck driver will be responsible for providing material transportation services for Lifewater International projects by (i) safely driving dump truck and recording logbook (ii) ensuring excellent condition of the truck (iii) safely transporting materials and equipment. S/he will also assist in procurement, transporting of goods and delivering and receiving messages to and from Lifewater International projects and in-country office.  

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Drives dump truck and any other vehicle assigned in a safe and professional manner
  • Regularly inspects vehicle for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and report on the condition of vehicle at the end of each trip
  • Informs staff and people involved in loading and unloading about the precautions that they should take before and during loading and unloading and gives special attention to materials’ safety and security
  • Keeps the assigned vehicles clean, fueled and mechanically sound
  • Completes the vehicle logbook accurately and submits the log book for inspection on a regular basis to the supervisor
  • Responsible for reasonable fuel consumption and regularly checking the fuel, oil and water levels of assigned vehicle
  • Operates the vehicle in accordance with national and local driving laws at all times
  • Informs his/her supervisor of all vehicle movements when leaving the site and ensures that all vehicle movements are recorded on the formats prepared for vehicle movements
  • Responsible for all tools, medical kits and any other equipment supplied with the vehicle and keeping these tools from damage or misuse
  • Responsible for the safe delivery of any consignments assigned to the vehicle
  • Assists travelers with loading, unloading, packing and transferring any material as requested
  • Assists in and ensures that loading and unloading of the vehicle is carried out in a safe manner, and that the vehicle is not over weight limits
  • Conducts standard checks of the vehicle every day before operating and is responsible for ensuring any regular maintenance work is carried out
  • Reminds the supervisor at least one week in advance of scheduled maintenance work due
  •  Reports to the supervisor of regular services, insurance renewals. any vehicle defects and accidents timely
  • Avails herself/himself on time at the workstation and whenever requested to do so
  • Strictly adherence to the Lifewater International’s vehicle policies and procedures

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: One-year contract with possibility of extension and probation period of 60 working days.

Location: Lifewater Program districts in West Arsi zone and Sidama region

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

  • High school completer with at least one year of vocational education
  • Valid driving license of grade 4th or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years experience, preferably in international NGO
  • Proven dump truck driving experience on difficult roads and in the cities
  • Humble and integral personality
  • Commitment to the core values of Lifewater International
  • Ability to communicate in the English, Afan Oromo, Sidama and Amharic languages are advantageous
  • Age: above 30 years
