MELA FOR HER is a social startup enterprise based in Ethiopia that aims to transform women and girls’ lives across Ethiopia by providing them with access to affordable and eco-friendly menstrual products, menstrual health education, and job opportunities.

We envision a world where every girl and woman have access to sustainable menstrual hygiene products and information, and therefore, are fully empowered to have control over their sexual and reproductive health and ultimately, their life and destiny.

MELA is looking for a vibrant and energetic colleague to uptake the position of COMMUNICATIONS INTERN. You will join a team of professionals united by commitment to a cause and shared values. Your main goal will be to promote MELA’s campaigns and work online, while creating a growing digital community that supports MELA FOR HER mission in Ethiopia and across the globe.

Role and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the CEO, the position holder is expected to be responsible for the following roles:

• Together with the MELA team, develop the MELA FOR HER digital communications strategy
• Develop and implement the social media plan for 2022
• Design, launch and follow-up MELA FOR HER digital awareness-raising/advocacy and marketing campaigns.
• Create engaging and creative text, image and video contents for all social media accounts, website and others.
• Identify new trends and insights and strengthen relations with our digital community and supporters and relevant influencers.
• Other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Knowledge and/or experience in digital communications, social marketing or related fields. Passion for cause-based marketing.
• Knowledge and experience in social media management and platforms.
• Advanced knowledge and experience on design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, etc.) and photography and videography.
• Good understanding of Google Analytics and ads campaigns.
• Knowledge of Mailchimp.
• Proficiency in English and Amharic is required.
• A deep commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment and alignment with MELA’s mission.

• Creativity
• Ability to work independently. Enthusiasm and energetic attitude. Initiative and proactive approach to work.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
