Tearfund Ethiopia is looking for an Agriculture and Livelihoods Technical Advisor (ALTA) that will provide primary technical support to Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) members and partners in the Eastern Africa region. 15% of the ALTA’s time will be spend supporting Tearfund’s food security programming.

The ALTA will support the capacity development of implementing partners in eastern Africa by facilitating learning activities such as exchanges, workshops, conferences and literature dissemination. They will mentor partner staff, and utilise monitoring and evaluation data collected by partners to understand the overall progress in reaching project outcomes. They will also coordinate with national, regional and global organisations promoting Agriculture and Livelihoods activities, including conservation agriculture, in order to advance Foodgrains’ members, partners and Tearfund interests and visibility in the region.

Job Requirements

We are looking for candidates with:

• A Master’s Degree in agriculture or a related discipline

• 5 or more years’ experience with agricultural development projects in Sub-Saharan Africa

• 5 or more years’ experience in providing agricultural extension services

• Experience working with Ministry of Agriculture staff

• Experience in program monitoring and evaluation including designing and evaluating projects.

• Experience working with and through local partners

The successful applicant will also have:

• Ability to motivate and develop the skills of others

• Analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• Proven track record in report writing

• Training, facilitation and presentation skills

• Knowledge of information technologies including spreadsheets, statistical software programs, and webinar delivery platforms

• Fluency (written and spoken) in English and Amharic
