Job Description
Main Purposes
Carrying out assessments and ensuring the implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the Biomed activities including repairs, maintenance of equipment and planning of Biomed orders according to MSF protocols and standards to ensure the correct use and efficient functioning of the Biomed equipment of the mission.
Defining procedures and managing the implementation, monitoring, maintenance and correct functioning of the biomedical workshop, including spare parts, technical documentation, tools, etc., including the following tasks:
Organising and participating in the installation and replacement of the equipment and following up the different maintenance contracts (propose renewal before they expire)
Identifying the equipment requiring after-sale services and ensuring their return to medical services. Performing fault diagnosis, curative and preventive maintenance, annual diagnosis and certification for those items of equipment for which specialised training has been received
Participating in the assessment of local suppliers and ensuring a good supply of spare parts from them
Managing inventory of spare parts and backup equipment at the mission level and checking and advising on international orders for consumables and spare parts.
Managing the biomed technicians at the level of the project and elaborating their activities planning and in close coordination with the HR department, planning and supervising the associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility
Acting as a technical referent and assisting Project Biomedical Technicians when maintenance work requires further assistance, documentation or additional tools. Taking the lead in organising user training where required
Ensuring the proper documentation, filing and compilation of the installation and maintenance done or required as well as defining functioning standards and monitoring systems
Performing delegated tasks as defined in his/her job description and according to the line manager.
Specific Accountabilities
Ensure compliance with MSF standard procedures of regular and routine maintenance by carrying out preventive maintenance as required and scheduled as well as Annual diagnosis and certification of equipment that are due to be done by a contractor or for which specialized training has been received.
Ensure adherence to MSF protocol/guidelines for corrective maintenance whenever Biomedical equipment is due/faulty.
Ensure proper Asset Management and Inventory of all Biomedical equipment are updated and reported.
Understand technical documentation, Operating principles and the use of each Biomedical equipment in the Project / Mission.
Coordinate between Projects for equipment/support exchange
Organizes and participates in the Installation of Biomedical Equipment, repairs, maintenance, and replacement where necessary for the smooth operation of the Project / Mission.
Take the lead in organizing User training whenever and wherever it is required.
Ensure compliance with safe equipment handling and operation by the Medical team and ensure proper cleaning procedure is known by the users.
Arrange Picking and packing for Biomedical equipment shipment and keep contact with the Service Providers / After-sales service agents / MSF Supply Center for repairs that cannot be done locally.
Ensure follow-up on all maintenance/repair contract agreements: new contracts, renewals/terminations of such contracts whenever it would be required.
Provide technical support and training to Biomed Technicians and or Tech Logs in the Project and other MSF Projects in Ethiopia.
Ensure documentation of all services, maintenance, and repairs with the dates, type of troubleshooting done and spare parts used, and a report must be provided with the solution identified.
Ensure proper follow-up on spare parts and backup equipment at the Project / Mission levels and advise on International Orders consumables and spare parts.
Coordinate and organize repair returns, keep track of the arrival of orders and request information in case of delay and or emergency.
Perform other duties that may be assigned by his/her line manager.

Terms of employment: Until December 31, 2024, with a possibility of extension
Remuneration and Benefits:
Starting gross salary/month: 54,784 ETB
Medical Coverage 100%
Hardship Allowance: 16,435 ETB
Requirements
Education
Degree in Biomedical engineering / Diploma as Biomedical Technician.
Demonstrable technical skills and understanding
Experience
Experience as a biomedical technician. (Minimum 2 years experience).
Pedagogical skills are an asset
