Job Description

The WPS Program Coordinator (PC) is a senior position in charge of the NEWA’s program operations.The aim is to execute, facilitate and exercise effective day-to-day coordination and management of projects on Women Peace and Security, according to the Network’s, general standards and institutional culture. The PC will engage in fundraising/ resource mobilizations, and provide technical assistance and guidance to the program and project officers. 

The PC contributes to ensuring all WPS projects meet the mission and objectives of NEWA as a national agency for Gender Equality, Women Empowerment, and the fight against GBV/VAWG. The incumbent confirms effectiveness, efficiency and meeting quality standards by working in a team, closely monitoring project activities, budget and organizing logistics. As an advocate Network organization, the PC support NEWA to gather sufficient information and knowledge on and the implementation gaps of national policies, laws, and plans and the engagement of women, young women, girls in their areas of interest and needs including in the prevention of conflict, peace building and humanitarian responses. The PC closely works with the Program manger, Finance & Administration Dept, and the M&E unit, the communication and IT section. 

As senior staff, the expected qualities include being diligent, organized, details oriented and comfortable working with diverse teams as well as skilled with programme development and human resource support – mentor- coach and manage. The position holder needs to be dedicated and passionate for the causes of NEWA, hardworking, professional and with excellent organizational skills.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the day-to-day operations of NEWA’s WPS program and projects,

  • Lead and execute the implementation of the active WPS projects which NEWA is currently operating.

  • Provide technical assistance and capacity development support for Ethiopian Women Peace Builders

  • Work as a focal person to support and coordinate Ethiopian Women Peace Builders/ EWPB/ on behalf of NEWA

  • Establish Peace Fund that can be utilized for WPS activities at local and national levels

  • Represent NEWA in different platforms and contribute on the perspective of women Peace and security

  • Execute, facilitate and exercise effective coordination and management of projects according to the NEWA’s and general standards and institutional culture,

  • Identify areas for engagement and support as related to the Women Peace and Security issue.

  • Prepare and review periodic project reports, ensure quality (monthly, quarterly, biannual and annually as required), and submits to the PM for review and approval.

  • Follow up, identify existing calls, coordinate and design quality proposals for fundraising or/and resource mobilizations to execute projects and activities on WPS, including those in partnership with member associations /organizations, 

  • Prepare compiled program plan, ensure each project prepares plans and exercise supportive supervision for projects or /and activities from design, planning stage to completion to ensure effectiveness and efficiency, 

  • Coordinate overall program planning, monitoring, and reporting of the organization together with the project officers and M&E

  • Ensures the compliance of donor contracts (projects and budgets), that programs/ projects implementation meet expected deadlines.

  • Produce timely/periodic quality reports to the management, donors and partners as appropriate, (monthly, quarterly, biannually, annual))

  • Identify opportunities for capacity building of members, EWPB and facilitate technical/programming support and trainings to partners, as needed.

  • Ensure quality and timely implementation of the Program, documentation of good practices, success stories as well as high quality and timely reporting for results.

  • Closely work with the Finance & Administration Dept., the M&E unit, communication and IT section for coordinated efforts and internal synergy, 

  • Coordinate the organization of major WPS related advocacy campaigns, events, trainings, workshops and knowledge products.

  • Identify and network with relevant actors working on WPS across the region and globally.

  • Closely follow up the quality of outsourced consultancy services, including the preparation of ToR, selection process, inception and final reports. 

  • Contribute to contents for website, social media and IEC materials (magazines, brochures, leaflets, t-shirts, etc.) for promotional purpose and information sharing,

  • Respect NEWA’s values. principles and policies,

  • Represent projects/program and NEWA in meetings and conferences and others as designated and promote NEWA in the face of the public, government and donor partners,

  • Closely work with the Finance & Administration Dept., the M&E unit, communication and IT section for coordinated efforts and internal synergy, and

  • Perform related duties as required

Qualifications

Masters’ degree in the field of Peace and Security, social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, international development, or a related field is required in international relations, economics, law, gender studies or other relevant fields. Relevant Experience

  • Program coordination and including design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting

  • At least five years of progressively responsible work experience in development programme/project implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting and capacity building

  • Knowledge in the area of Peace and Security or Women’s Empowerment is required

  • Proven expertise in project designing, proposal drafting and resources mobilization

  • Extensive experience in coordinating and liaising with government agencies, civil society organisations and/or donors.

  • Hands on experience in Proposal writing 

  • Experience in gender programs 

  • Experience in coordination and managing gender, related projects 

  • Experience  in conducting advocacy 

  • Experience in programme operations, 

Length of Experience 

At least five years of progressively responsible work experience in development programme/project implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting and capacity building

Key skills/ competency 

  1. Excellent understanding of development issues, gender equality and the cultural context of the country.

  2. Understanding of the current development agendas, WPS agendas in Africa and UN Level.

  8. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, excel, access, PowerPoint, and outlook). Knowledge of other computer software’s used for preparing communications tools will be an asset.
