Since its inception in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 10 million patients and is now operating in 13 countries in Africa. In 2020, we have developed 67 humanitarian medical response projects to meet the needs of populations affected by conflict, epidemics and extreme poverty. All of these projects support national health authorities through 357 health facilities (including 45 hospitals and 312 health centers). We work in partnership, particularly with local NGOs, whenever possible to ensure that our patients benefit from expertise wherever it is available, whether in their country or in the rest of the world. In addition, to improve the humanitarian response, we conduct operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the areas of malnutrition and viral hemorrhagic fevers. ALIMA also conducts operations in response to the Covid-19 pandemic in all our missions.

ALIMA IN ETHIOPIA
ALIMA has been operating in Ethiopia since 2022, providing healthcare, nutrition, and emergency response in regions affected by conflict, instability, and climate-related crises.
The organization initially focused on the Afder zone in the Somali Region, where limited healthcare infrastructure and recurring droughts have led to severe malnutrition and a shortage of medical personnel. ALIMA delivered integrated health and nutrition services to support vulnerable communities in Hargele, Elkare and Barey woredas. This ECHO funded project was closed at the end of the funding cycle in October 2024.
In 2024, ALIMA expanded its work to the Tigray region, which had been heavily impacted by instability and conflict. The organization is implementing a CDCS funded program addressing healthcare, nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in targeted woredas. A base has been established in Mekele, and activities are being rolled out to improve access to essential services for affected populations.
To ensure continuity and scale up its impact, ALIMA has also proposed to ECHO an extension of its programs in both Afder and Tigray, aiming to strengthen healthcare systems, enhance nutrition support, and improve overall community resilience.
MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
Under the supervision of the Head of Mission, the Grants Manager is responsible for implementing the funding strategy in line with ALIMA's country action plan.
More specifically, he/she is responsible for mobilizing funding that will allow the implementation of projects, maintain regular relations with donors, and conduct an active search for funding, the guarantor of the drafting of project proposals and reports to donors, support the monitoring of contractual donor indicators, in collaboration with the Project Coordinators and the Medical Coordinator.
Definition and Monitoring of the Country Financing Strategy
The Grants Manager carries out an analysis of donor strategy and the availability of funding for the country concerned, in order to maintain a high level of information and understanding of the issues, identify funding needs for the mission in collaboration with the coordination team and propose a relevant funding strategy for the mission. He/she assess the issues and propose the adaptation of the strategy according to the operational action plan of the country. During the mission, the Grants Manager monitors the financing strategy and adapts it according to changing needs. In conjunction with the Head of Mission and the Donor Advisor at headquarters, support the design and implementation of a strategy for acquiring grants and mobilizing resources
Maintenance of the relationship with donors
In conjunction with the Head of Mission, ensure representation with donors and negotiate funding for ALIMA projects. He/she maintain relations with the donors who finance the projects to ensure regular quality communication, coordinate the visit of donors to projects when the security situation allows it, with the support of the Head of Mission.
Business Development & Grants Prospection
The Grants Manager, in support of the Head of Mission, conducts an active search for funding and identifies new donors to approach in order to ensure good knowledge of ALIMA and the projects implemented by its staff. He/ she actively monitor the thematic priorities of donors and funding mechanisms in the country, carry out donor mapping and intelligence gathering and regularly informs the country coordination on this subject. He/she develops project presentations and brochures to ensure institutional communication throughout the year.
Supports to operational planning in line with donor and funding priorities
The Grants Manager supports the Project Coordinators and the coordination team in the design of interventions in line with the donors' strategy. He/she ensures that the interventions are aligned with the thematic and operational priorities of the donors, and that the submissions respect the formats required by the latter.
Production of concepts notes and project proposals
In order to obtain funding, the Grants Manager is responsible for submitting concept notes and project proposals within the deadlines imposed by the donors, ensure the writing of project documents to respond to opportunities with donors and guarantee the quality and conformity of the documents produced.
Disseminates key information on donor procedures, funding contracts and supports Project Coordinators in monitoring contractual requirements
The Grants Manager is responsible for updating the coordination team on donor guidelines, continually inform the teams of the evolution of donor procedures and requirements. In addition, the Grants Manager supports the Project Coordinators in monitoring the contractual requirements of donors.
The Grants Manager monitors operational developments, including budgetary, in order to propose contractual modifications if necessary.
Data tracking to meet reporting requirements
The Grants Manager develops and incorporates solid elements of monitoring and follow-up in the reports in the project monitoring tools and therefore participates, with the Data Manager (if available) and the Medical Coordinator, in the control and compilation of operational data.
He/she ensures the updating of data monitoring tools in connection with financing contracts and anticipate the deadlines of reports in order to ensure the completeness of the data and a quality analysis.
Ensures the production of accurate and analytical narrative reports within the defined deadlines
The Grants Manager is responsible for preparing interim and final reports for donors, according to the reporting formats and rules imposed, directly responsible for drafting documents, based on precise, quantitative and qualitative information and capitalized on during the year. He/she establishes regular liaison with the coordinators and project managers and, for the preparation of reports, make the link between the commitments with the donor and the reality of the projects and the land and ensures compliance with deadlines and are responsible for the quality of reports.
Ensures the contractual management of financing contracts
The Grants Manager is responsible for monitoring financing contracts with donors, in direct contact with the national representatives of the lessor for contractual management issues, make sure to know and respect the procedures of the lessor and that these are known to the rest of the team. For this, he/she has an up-to-date common contract monitoring tool.
Ensures the application of standards in the prevention of abuse
The Grants Manager must participate in training and awareness sessions to apply the standards relating to the prevention of abuse in all the tasks they undertake (ex: adding the thematic in reports, project proposals, clause on the prevention of abuse, etc)., contribute to creating and maintaining a fulfilling and protective environment.
Contract Term : Fixed-Term contract under Ethiopian law
Contract length : 6-month contract with possibility of renewal depending on the duration of the funding budget
Position Location : Addis Ababa (With frequent field visits)
Salary : According to ALIMA salary scale (level 10) + valuation of experience
NB: this offer is contingent upon the securing of pending donor fund
Higher education diploma (Master's level or equivalent) related to the position (development studies, public health, international relations, project management, etc.)
Excellent level of spoken and written English
Good command of project management tools (project cycle, logical framework, project proposal, reporting, etc.)
Professional experience in reporting, design and/or project management of at least one year, as well as field experience.
Excellent analytical, synthesis and writing skills
Autonomy, capacity for initiative, ability to work in a team and to communicate
Rigor, motivation, willingness to achieve project support objectives
