Job Description
Première Urgence International (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilians’ victims of marginalization and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency.
PUI works in 10 areas of intervention and distinguishes itself by the implementation of an integrated approach in its response. This method aims to identify and understand the needs of all those affected by a crisis. Our teams come together to bring a rapid global response to the basic needs of populations affected by humanitarian crises to help them regain independence and dignity.
PUI in Ethiopia:
Following the North Ethiopia conflict which erupted in 2020 and the reports of recurrent drought which is affecting the life and livelihood of millions in different regions of Ethiopia, PUI decided to contribute its part to address the humanitarian needs triggered by both manmade and natural disasters. PUI has been registered with FDRE Authority for Civil Society Organization (ACSO) since June 22, 2022, to enable the organization to operate legally in the country.
And has been providing humanitarian assistance in Afar and Benishangul Gumuz Regional States addressing the needs of population affected by both manmade and natural disasters. The organization has been exploring the potential gaps in terms of humanitarian assistance in the regions where it is currently intervening and other regions.
The current projects in Afar and Benishangul Gumuz regions are mainly focusing on creating better access to health and nutrition services for conflict and drought affected population. PUI is working in collaboration with local health authorities in providing support to revitalize the conflict affected health systems in those regions. In Metekel zone of BGRS, PUI is implementing humanitarian assistance in Debatie, Bullen, Dangur and Pawi woredas while in Afar, PUI is supporting nutrition services in Abala town, Abala rural woreda, Berhale, Wasama and Dallol woredas of Afar region in Kilbati Rasu zone.
PUI is working with Expertise France to integrate SRH and GBV protection activities in its ongoing project in Afar region targeting Abala area.
For this purpose, PUI is actively recruiting new staff in various disciplines of health, PSS and protection to be part of Roving Protection and Medical Team (RPMT) based in Abala town, Afar region, Kilbati Rasu zone and support four health centers in Abala and Wasama woredas.
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and supported by the RPMT Medical Doctor, the Midwife provides technical support to the SRH staff in supported health facilities to provide quality MNCH/ SRH services, including ANC, PNC, Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care, family planning counseling and services. S/he follows national Sexual Reproductive Health protocols and universal standards to ensure quality and continuity of care. H/She will work in collaboration with other RPMT members to enhance integration of GBV protection and management into sexual and reproductive health services at primary health care facilities.
A.PATIENT CARE
Prepare all the materials and ensure that everything is ready before starting the activities
Perform antenatal consultations including screening tests according to the protocols, detect and mention all the risk factors.
Conduct delivery according to the protocols, precautions, hygiene standards
Perform postnatal consultations during the 6 weeks following the delivery, give appropriate treatment.
Perform family planning consultations and counseling according to protocol
Give systematic prophylactic treatments to pregnant women
Verify the tetanus vaccination of each pregnant woman
Manage SRH emergency cases with the assistance of the medical doctor according to PUI protocols and regulation
Identify Sexually Gender-Based Violence victims and collaborate with the medical team for treatment
Explain clearly the diagnosis and treatment to the patient and make sure that the patients comply with the treatment
Request for a 2nd evaluation of the patient when needed
Provide individual health promotion during consultations
Give health education sessions to the patients in the waiting areas
Actively participate in the good cohesion and coordination of the team.
Participate in the follow-up of waste management according to the waste management procedures
Participate in any other activities such as vaccination, survey…according to the needs and as directed
Maintain the working environment in a clean and presentable state
B. MANAGEMENT OF AN EFFICIENT REFERRAL SYSTEM
Manage the emergency and electives referral cases according to the referral protocol by facilitating the logistics including transportation means, appointment with specialists, laboratory tests etc.
Follow up the referred cases, and check the outcome
Ensuring appropriate follow-up care has been given and taking appropriate action if further care is needed
Identify and refer patients who need GBV case management as well as mental health consultation
C. MEDICAL DATA COLLECTION AND REPORTING
Record accurately and on a readable manner, the clinical case management on the patient health card (history taking, physical examination, treatment, investigation, etc.), and patient registration book
Ensure an accurate daily use and tracking of epidemiological data
Participate in the daily tracking of consumption of the drugs and materials used from the medical box
Collect general information about the people living conditions
Participate in the weekly medical statistic report in collaboration
Ensure a clear verbal and written hand over at every end of the shift, with emphasis on specific events
Report to the supervisor any problem especially the gap/loss/robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines or any patient and organizational issue
Inform the direct supervisor of the various needs
D. INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL REPRESENTATION
Participate in any training in order to improve the quality and efficiency of nursing cares and duties
Participate actively in meetings when required.
The tasks and responsibilities defined in this job description are not exhaustive and can evolve depending on the project needs. The employee could be requested to perform other tasks as his/her Line Manager may judge necessary.

Required Qualifications and Professional Experience
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Midwifery with valid professional license to practice the task.
Similar experience of 5 years for first degree or 3 years for MSc
Experience humanitarian works
Work experience in Afar, Abala zone
Required knowledge & skills:
Proficiency in MS Office.
Knowledge of the community of Afar
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Language:
English, Afar, and Amharic.
