Department: Commercial - Business Development
Reporting To: BD Head (and indirectly to Commercial Manager)
Direct Reports:
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and other locations as needed
The Business Development Engineer / Architect is a strategic role focused on expanding EASE’s portfolio of next-generation engineering solutions. The BD Engineer / Architect will act as the first contact and present EASE’s services to prospects, and will be responsible for strategically developing sales opportunities by identifying and educating prospective customers on our service offerings - including EASE Slab System, EASE Slabs, EPods, BIM services, modular construction, and IoT-integrated building systems. The role involves translating these offerings into commercial wins by engaging clients, consultants, and developers early in the project lifecycle. It bridges value-driven engineering and business development to support revenue growth in EASE’s Construction Tech and structural technology verticals.
Identify and explore new market opportunities to drive growth. Develop and execute strategies to onboard new clients and expand into new markets.
Identify and pursue developers, infrastructure builders and consultants across public and private sectors.
Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and client feedback to identify areas for sales improvement. Implement strategies to achieve business development targets.
Client Engagement and Retention:
Collaborate with clients and design consultants to integrate EASE’s tech-enabled systems from concept phase.
Lead value engineering discussions that demonstrate time, cost, and quality advantages of EASE Engineering’s solutions. Present and explain technical options in a commercially compelling manner.
Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing clients. Proactively follow up on client needs, address concerns, and ensure high levels of satisfaction.
Act on behalf of EASE Engineering in dealings with clients and partners. Manage communications, negotiate terms, and handle contractual agreements effectively.
Enhance the value of current customer relationships through strategic upselling and cross-selling.
Tender Support and Proposal Presentation:
Align with the Operations and Design Team to ensure proposals are technically sound and competitively priced.
Organize and lead meetings, presentations, and detailed explanation sessions for clients and stakeholders. Prepare and deliver tailored proposals and solutions
Track ongoing and upcoming tenders and maintain a proactive pursuit pipeline.
Technical Marketing and Positioning:
Support the Marketing Team in creating brochures, case studies, and technical content
Attend and represent EASE Engineering at conferences, meetings, and industry events. Network with industry professionals, gather market insights, and promote the company’s solutions
Stay informed about new trends and competitors in the market. Analyze and report on market conditions, customer needs, and competitor activities.
Reporting and Documentation:
Work closely with the BD Head and Commercial Manager to align targets and reporting.
Provide regular reports on pipeline progress, market intelligence, and product feedback from the field.
Maintain CRM records and ensure alignment with internal business development tools.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, architecture, or related fields; postgraduate specialization in Engineering Management, Business Administration, or Construction Tech is a plus.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in technical business development, project consulting, engineering sales, engineering procurement, account management, or other relevant experience (preferably in construction and real estate sector).
Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals.
Track record of successfully achieving or overachieving goals.
Expertise:
Strong skills in prospecting, including cold calling and utilizing social media for outreach.
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, capable of translating complex technical content into commercial opportunities.
Fearless and positive attitude – willing to take intelligent risks while being a team player and resilient in the face of challenges.
Self-starter – always looking for ways to do the job better and never waiting to be told what to do.
Flexibility – changing approach and methods to best fit any situation.
High emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics
Knowledge:
Understanding construction workflows, project cycles, and client decision-making patterns.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a clear, concise, and compelling storyteller.
Prior experience using CRM tools is desired but not required.
Market intelligence on competitors and industry trends across East Africa.
