Job Description

Positive Action for Development (PAD) is one of the most vibrant, rapidly expanding, and results-driven civil society organizations in Ethiopia. As part of its ongoing efforts, PAD is seeking to hire a qualified Woreda Education Officer for a Malala fund, girls’ education project titled “Malala fund” In the target areas of three woredas, Wara Jarso, Degem, and Kuyu, nine secondary schools will be identified in the North Shewa Zone of the Oromia Regional State. The Officer will be primarily responsible for monitoring and evaluating project implementation, tracking performance indicators, ensuring timely and quality reporting, and facilitating learning across sectors to inform adaptive management.

Job Summary:

The Woreda Education Officers play a vital role in ensuring the organization's programs and projects are evidence-based, impactful, and continuously improved through data-driven decision-making. The Education Officer is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and implementation of education activities aimed at challenging the barriers that prevent girls from accessing 12 years of free, safe, quality education in In North Shewa Zone, Oromia Regional State in the target areas of three woredas, Wara Jarso, Degem, and Kuyu. The role involves close collaboration with local government, community stakeholders, and Malala Fund's local Education Champions. 

Key Responsibilities:

Program Planning and Implementation: Oversee the day-to-day operations and successful delivery of project activities in line with project goals and timelines. This includes developing detailed implementation plans and budgets for intervention areas.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with a variety of stakeholders, including school directors, Woreda (district) education offices, teachers, Parent-Teacher Student Associations (PTSAs), and community leaders.

Capacity Building & Training: Identify training needs and organize and deliver various training and capacity-building activities for teachers, facilitators, and local partners, focusing on gender-responsive pedagogy, inclusive education, and child protection standards.

Advocacy and Policy Engagement: Support local advocates (Education Champions) in data collection, research, and policy analysis to advocate for increased government funding and improved policies for girls' education.

Monitoring and Evaluation (MEAL): Monitor program implementation, assess impact, gather feedback from participants, and report findings to ensure effective program management and quality control.

Safeguarding and Protection: Ensure all activities adhere to safeguarding and child protection policies, promoting the well-being and safety of children and young people from all forms of abuse and discrimination.

Reporting and Documentation: Compile monthly and quarterly project reports, document best practices, and maintain project records. 

Job Requirements

Education: A University degree (Bachelor's or Master's) in Education, Educational Planning and Management, Sociology, Social Sciences, or a related technical field.

Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of relevant professional experience in education programming, preferably within an NGO, INGO, or UN, with experience in humanitarian or emergency contexts considered an asset.

Skills: Strong project management, communication, and report writing skills. Familiarity with local education systems and a commitment to girls' education and gender equality.

Language: Fluency in written and spoken English, knowledge of local languages of the duty station, Oromiffa and Amharic, is required.
