The Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI), formerly known as the Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA), is a strategy and delivery-oriented government institute created to help accelerate the growth and transformation of Ethiopia’s agriculture sector, which is a key contributor to the country’s GDP, exports, and workforce. The ATI’s work is center on improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers (SHFs) across the country for improved income, inclusiveness, resilience, and sustainability.
The ATI works to transform the agriculture sector in Ethiopia by conducting policy and analytical studies, providing technical implementation support and capacity building, coordinating. platforms to better integrate partners and projects and designing and directly leading several innovative/pilot interventions. The Institute joins forces with various stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, farmers, and development partners, to support the implementation of agricultural development programs and initiatives. In addition, the ATI collaborates with national and international partners to facilitate knowledge exchange and learning opportunities. The Institute plays a crucial role in generating and disseminating information to support evidence-based decision-making in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector.

The MIC Project Manager: Team lead I will lead the planning, coordination, and oversight of the DREAM project’s mini-grid initiatives in Ethiopia. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong project management skills, cross-sectoral collaboration experience, and knowledge of energy, water, and agricultural sectors. The Project Manager: Team lead I will work closely with government agencies, development partners, private sector developers, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation and monitoring of mini-grid projects that support agricultural productivity, water supply, and rural development.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Project Management and Monitoring
Lead the overall planning, execution, and monitoring of the DREAM mini-grid pilot projects.
Develop detailed work plans, timelines, and budgets; track progress and deliverables.
Liaise with Consultant, developer and other partners to ensure effective project implementation.
Ensure compliance with project objectives, timelines, and quality standards.
Establishment of Innovation Lab
Facilitate the creation and operational setup of the Innovation Lab to support pilot activities, data collection, and knowledge sharing.
Coordinate with stakeholders to foster an environment of innovation and continuous learning.
Data Collection and Assessment
Oversee data collection efforts related to project performance, operational metrics, and sectoral impact.
Analyse data to inform policy recommendations and project adjustments.
Prepare regular reports on project status, lessons learned, and recommendations.
Mini-grid Policy and Regulation
Support the development and refinement of mini-grid policies and regulatory frameworks in collaboration with relevant government bodies.
Facilitate dialogue between government, private sector, and development partners to address regulatory bottlenecks.
Provide expert insights to inform policy reforms based on pilot learnings.
Capacity Building
Organize training sessions and capacity-building workshops for government officials, private sector partners, and local communities.
Strengthen institutional capacities for project sustainability and replication.
Cross-Sectoral Collaboration
Maintain active collaboration with multiple ministries (Water and Energy, Agriculture, Ministry of Irrigation, Ministry of Finance, etc), development partners, and other stakeholders.
Promote integrated approaches to energy, water, and agriculture development within the project scope.
Represent MIC at meetings, workshops, and conferences related to the project.
Job Requirements
Required Qualification, Competencies and Experience:
At least Master's degree in Electrical/Electrical Power/Energy/Irrigation Engineering,
Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, preferably in energy, Irrigation/water, or agricultural sectors.
Proven experience managing multi-stakeholder projects, particularly in the context of rural development and renewable energy.
Strong understanding of mini-grid technologies, policy, and regulatory frameworks.
Experience working with government agencies, development partners, and private sector entities.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and reporting skills.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing project needs.
