Location: Flexible within Ethiopia, with frequent travel to assigned regions (Oromia & Sidama or Amhara & South Ethiopia)
Reporting to: Research & Policy Coordinator / Program Coordinator
Contract Duration: 8 months(Eight months )

Health Poverty Action (HPA) is implementing a project focused on deploying and integrating Measles Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) into Ethiopia’s health system to strengthen early detection, improve surveillance quality, and support evidence generation for national policy integration.

The Regional Research Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all field-level research and operational activities in the assigned cluster (Oromia–Sidama or Amhara–South Ethiopia). The position will ensure high-quality data collection, ethical compliance, effective coordination with regional and zonal health bureaus, and smooth communication with the national project team.

The incumbent will serve as the key liaison between regional stakeholders and the central research coordination team in Addis Ababa. Flexibility in deployment between regions may be required based on operational needs.

The Regional Research Coordinator will perform any additional tasks in the assigned regions as requested by the line manager to support project implementation. 

Major Roles and Responsibilities

1. Research Coordination and Field Supervision

  • Lead and oversee the implementation of research protocols, field data collection, and RDT feasibility assessments in assigned regions.

  • Support training and supervision of data collectors, ensuring data quality, timeliness, and adherence to ethical standards.

  • Coordinate logistics for RDT deployment studies in collaboration with regional and zonal health offices.

  • Monitor study progress and proactively identify and address field challenges.

  • Ensure proper documentation, data verification, and secure transmission to the central research team.

  • Ensure timely preparation, submission, and proper documentation of financial requests, advances, and liquidation reports in line with HPA’s financial procedures.

2. Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the regional focal point for collaboration with Regional Health Bureaus, WHO field offices, EPHI regional branches, and health facilities.

  • Facilitate coordination meetings, information sharing, and problem-solving with regional partners.

  • Support policy dialogue and dissemination efforts at regional and sub-regional levels.

3. Data Management and Reporting

  • Maintain up-to-date databases and detailed documentation of all field activities.

  • Provide weekly and monthly progress reports summarizing achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.

  • Contribute to the synthesis of field findings for inclusion in technical and donor reports.

4. Coordination and Communication

  • Work closely with the national Research & Policy Coordinator and other project team members to align regional activities with overall project objectives.

  • Ensure smooth communication and timely information flow between field teams, Addis office, and partners.

  • Participate in review meetings, workshops, and dissemination sessions as required.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Salary: Monthly gross salary range of USD 900 - 1039 (inclusive of 11% pension and 4% provident fund) based on the candidate’s competency and experience.
Hours: Full time
Holidays: 14 days per year pro rata
Location: Flexible (candidates may be assigned to any of the project regions as needed.) 

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or related health sciences.

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in public health research, disease surveillance, or project coordination.

  • Demonstrated experience working with regional health bureaus or in field-based coordination roles.

  • Evidence of working on field-based implementation research is required

  • Strong understanding of health research protocols, ethics, and data management systems.

  • Excellent organizational and reporting skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams and partners.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and at least one data collection tool (e.g., Kobo, ODK).

  • Proficient in Statistical software ( SPSS, Stata, R etc..) 

  • Fluency in English and working knowledge of Amharic; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
