To oversee and manage customs clearance and transit operations for imported and exported goods. The role ensures compliance with national and international regulations while minimizing delays, demurrage, and detention costs. It also coordinates with customs authorities, transporters, freight forwarders, and internal teams to ensure smooth cargo movement and timely documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities of Senior Custom and Transit Officer : 

• Oversee preparation, verification, and accuracy of all customs documentation, including invoices, Bills of Lading, packing lists, and HS code classifications.

• Lead and coordinate end-to-end customs clearance processes to ensure timely release of imported goods.

• Liaise with customs brokers and Ethiopian Customs Commission officials to resolve discrepancies and facilitate inspections.

• Manage transit operations from ports to dry ports and final destinations, ensuring timely closure of transit files.

• Coordinate with freight forwarders, transporters, shipping lines, and clearing agents to ensure smooth cargo movement.

• Work closely with internal teams such as procurement, finance, warehouse, and production to support timely goods receipt and payment processes.

• Ensure full compliance with customs laws, regulations, import permits, duty exemptions, and documentation requirements.

• Identify operational bottlenecks, risks, and delays, and implement improvement measures to reduce costs, demurrage, and penalties.

• Prepare regular reports, analyze clearance and transit data, and present insights to support management decision-making.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

• BA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management/ Management/ Economics or any other related field.  Advantageous if certified in Ethiopian Electronic Single window

• Minimum 5 years in international business or customs relevance experience
