Job Description

Minaye PLC is seeking a highly skilled and motivated General Accountant Section Head to lead our core accounting team. This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of all general accounting functions, delivering timely and accurate financial reporting, and driving process improvements. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record in managing accounting cycles, mentoring staff, and upholding the highest standards of financial compliance and control

Duties & Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Control:

  • Oversee the preparation and finalization of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) in strict compliance with IFRS.

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger through rigorous review and account reconciliation processes.

  • Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all deadlines are met.

  • Implement and monitor robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets.

Operational Leadership:

  • Manage and mentor a team of junior and senior accountants, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high performance.

  • Streamline accounting operations by identifying opportunities for automation and enhancing the use of our ERP system.

  • Coordinate and serve as the primary point of contact for both internal and external audits.

Technical & Compliance:

  • Perform detailed financial analysis, including variance (YoY/MoM) analysis, to provide insights for management decision-making.

  • Ensure full compliance with all statutory and tax regulations, including corporate tax, VAT, and payroll taxes.

  • Collaborate with the FP&A, AP, and AR teams to ensure a seamless financial workflow.

 Job Requirement:

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

  • A Master's Degree (MA) in Accounting, Finance, or MBA is highly preferred.

Experience:

  • Candidates with a BA must possess a minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in general accounting.

  • Candidates with a relevant MA must possess a minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in general accounting.

  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or team-lead capacity is required.

  • Proven experience with full-cycle accounting and financial reporting is essential.

Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced MS Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, Power Query).

  • In-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Ethiopian tax laws.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing internal controls.

Soft Skills:

  • Leadership & People Management: Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.

  • Analytical & Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and the ability to resolve complex discrepancies.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
