Job Description
The Logistics and Customs Officer is responsible for coordinating the import and export of goods, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, overseeing the movement and storage of goods, and optimizing supply chain efficiency. This role ensures that shipments are properly documented, cleared, and delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner.

1. Customs Clearance & Compliance
Prepare and submit accurate documentation required for customs clearance (e.g., invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin).
Liaise with the Ethiopian Customs Commission and other regulatory bodies to ensure timely clearance of imported and exported goods.
Ensure compliance with all applicable customs laws, tariff classifications, and duty payments.
Follow up on import permits, duty-free authorizations, and exemption requests if applicable.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of national and international import/export regulations.
2. Logistics Coordination
Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, and transport companies for the movement of goods by sea, air, and land.
Track shipments from origin to final destination and ensure timely delivery.
Arrange internal transportation and warehousing for incoming and outgoing goods.
Verify shipping documents and coordinate booking, loading, and unloading.
3. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain organized records of all shipping, customs, and logistics documents.
Prepare weekly or monthly logistics and customs activity reports for management.
Ensure records are available for audit and compliance reviews.
4. Communication & Coordination
Communicate with internal departments (procurement, finance, warehouse) for coordination of logistics activities.
Resolve shipment or clearance delays by proactively communicating with relevant stakeholders.
Negotiate with clearing agents, freight forwarders, and transport companies to ensure best pricing and service levels.
5. Inventory & Cost Management
Monitor transportation and customs-related costs to support budgeting and cost reduction efforts.
Assist with inventory planning and stock-level tracking as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field.
· Certified in Customs Clearance by the Ethiopian Customs Commission or other recognized authority.
· Experience: Minimum of 2–4 years of relevant experience in customs clearance and logistics operations.
· Strong understanding of Ethiopian customs procedures, import/export regulations, and trade compliance.
· Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and experience with logistics or ERP systems.
· Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· Fluency in Amharic and English; additional languages are a plus.
