Job Description
The Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO) is a network of 32 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on human rights, democracy, and Peace building in Ethiopia. Over the past seven years, CEHRO has been actively engaged in the advancement of human rights protection and promotion in Ethiopia by creating a common platform for human rights CSOs to articulate their voices and launch well-articulated and evidence-based advocacy to expand civic space. CEHRO has also been extensively engaging in the capacity development of member organizations and other stakeholders to enhance the capacity of duty bearers and rights holders for effective human rights protection and democratic governance.
CEHRO is currently implementing a project aimed at regularly tracking and monitoring the ongoing Ethiopian national dialogue process. The monitoring project is anchored on providing actionable recommendations for key actors in the process including the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (NDC) and the general public. As part of this monitoring exercise, CEHRO has finalized its first monitoring report in English language drawn from the reports of the Community of Practices of CSOs established across various regions, including Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa
In this context, CEHRO is currently looking for a consultant/translator to translate its first monitoring report from English language to Amharic language with error free and context aware language translation.
The translation should be accurate, fluent, and culturally appropriate, and socially desirable.
The objectives of this translation are to:
Produce a high-quality translation of the monitoring report into Amharic language.
Ensure that the translation is accurate, fluent, and error free.
Make the monitoring report accessible to a wider audience of Amharic language readers.
The scope of work for this translation includes:
Translation of the entire monitoring report, including all text, tables, figures, references and other visuals.
Proofreading and editing of the translation to ensure accuracy, fluency, and cultural appropriateness.
The deliverables for this translation are:
A complete and final translation of the monitoring report in Amharic.
A proofreading certificate from a qualified Amharic translator (if available).
The translation (a total of 40 pages) should be completed within two weeks of receiving the English- language monitoring report.
Education: At least a master’s degree level education in any of the following fields: Amharic Language, Literature and Folklore, Journalism and Communications, Linguistics, Language Translation, Law, Human Rights, International Law, Public Policy and Administration, Governance, Development Studies, Political Science and International Relations or related fields of study.
Experience and Skills:
The translator must have the following qualifications:
Fluency in Amharic.
Excellent proficiency in English.
Experience in translating research/monitoring reports and other technical documents.
Knowledge of the subject matter of the monitoring report.
The translator will be selected based on the following criteria:
Qualifications and experience
Quality of sample translation
Price quotation
The following procedure will be followed for this translation:
The translator signs a contract service agreement with CEHRO
The English-language monitoring report will be provided to the translator
The translator will produce a draft translation of the monitoring report
CEHRO will review the draft translation and provide feedback to the translator
The translator will revise the translation based on the feedback
CEHRO will review the final translation and approve it, if satisfactory.
The translator will deliver the final translation and the proofreading certificate (if available) toCEHRO.
CEHRO will make payment to the translator based on the contract agreement.
Quality Assurance
The following quality assurance measures will be taken for this translation:
The translator will be a qualified and experienced Amharic translator.
The translator will proofread and edit the translation to ensure accuracy, fluency, and cultural appropriateness.
CEHRO will review the draft translation and provide feedback to the translator.
CEHRO will review the final translation and approve it, if satisfactory.
The translation will be accepted if it meets the following criteria:
It is accurate and complete
It is fluent and natural sounding
It is culturally appropriate
It is formatted correctly
The translator will keep all information provided by CEHRO confidential.
Interested consultants should submit the following documents:
A financial proposal that details the cost of services (price per word) quoted in ETB including all applicable taxes and delivery timeline.
A copy of sample translation on similar assignment
A CV or resume that highlights relevant demonstrated previous experience in similar assignments and qualifications
Renewed and Qualified Legal (consultancy or translation) License,
TIN certificate
Proof reading certificate of similar work (if available).
