Job Description

Under the direct supervision of NEBE communications Specialist and the External Communication Advisor, the incumbent will provide technical assistance to NEBE on all substantial and operational matters pertaining to the management of media communications.

Specific duties include:

  • Advise NEBE in managing press events and coordinating relations with journalists
  • Assist NEBE with monitoring mainstream media (national electronic media, regional electronic media, private electronic media and print media) with regards to content related to elections and the political process with specific attention to gender mainstreaming;
  • Prepare NEBE’s daily news digest for NEBE leadership and public outreach work when required
  • Conduct analysis on trends pertaining to the media coverage of elections on mainstream media and support identifying communications gaps on national mainstream media;
  • Train NEBE staff on managing relations with media based on NEBE’s pertinent guideline
  • Provide regular updates and draft reports and other documents according to the Project’s reporting framework as well as ad-hoc requirements.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as requested by NEBE communications specialist and the Chief Technical Advisor

Job Requirement

BA or Master’s degree in journalism  communications, Political Sciences, International Relations or related field.

Interested applicants must have a minimum of 2 years for Master’s degree and 4 years for Bachelor degree specialized experience in national context in communication of which two specifically working with on mainstream media, extensive experience in drafting official documents to be circulated at senior level and publicly, experience in the media industry is an asset; experience of working with UN administration and familiarity with UN policies of electoral assistance and understanding of UN/UNDP programming arrangements is an asset.
