Job Description
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an international, humanitarian, non-profit, non-governmental organization which provides assistance, protection and durable solutions to refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide. NRC is working in Ethiopia in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and The Administration for Refugees and Returnee Affairs ARRA) to implement provision of access to Shelter, food security, WASH and quality education in Ethiopia for Somali, Eritrean, and Sudanese refugees as well as host communities around the refugee camps in Dolo Ado, Shire, Gambella and Asosa districts.
NRC is currently implementing a joint Norwegian resilience building project (JRBP) in Dollo and Dollo Baay woreda of Somali region which is an integrated and demand driven intended to enhance the resilience and local capacity of dry land farmers in adapting to climate change and improve livelihoods through adoption and utilization of integrated community-based interventions and institutions. Thus the various interventions are aimed at contributing towards building the resilience to climate and improving the livelihood of the affected communities.
Therefore, NRC through its intervention would like improve the livelihood of the drought-affected community by promoting alternative livelihoods so as rebuild and restore their asset. Hence, NRC would like to identify and establish potential business or income generating opportunities for the targeted communities
Rationale and approach of the market study.
The rationale for contracting the market study is the need to plug the enterprise development strategy into up to date, relevant and reliable market information that indicates which economic sector to focus in order to achieve market success, profitability and success for the targeted beneficiaries. Thus, the study is meant to build crucial foundation on the broader cycle of market analysis within and beyond the project.
Therefore the consultant is tasked the responsibility of providing clear and realistic direction on market oriented entrepreneurship development by means of a substantiated and consistent indication of which economic sectors and sub sectors will be suitable to the beneficiaries capacity as well as showing the marketing potential needed for viable small businesses.
