CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 1:  the role holder will not have contact with children and/or young people, or access to personal data about children or young people, as part of their work; therefore, a police check will not be mandatory unless the content or location of the role changes, in which case the Child Safeguarding level will be reviewed. 

Level 2: either the role holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or they will be working in a ‘regulated’ position (accountant, barrister, solicitor, legal executive); therefore, a police check will be required (at ‘standard’ level in the UK or equivalent in other countries).

ROLE PURPOSE:

Under the guidance of the MEAL Manager and Health and Nutrition Specialist, the Research Lead will be responsible for the analysis and write up of the baseline survey using WHO 2015 guide and health facility assessment for the GSK funded Immunization Strengthening Project in Somali Region. Specifically, S/He will lead the data analysis and reporting of the baseline survey and health facility assessment using the revised WHO immunization coverage guide and ensure all data related to the projects are entered, analysed and reported to inform and guide project implementation. S/he will also organize validation workshop and finalize the  baseline survey and health facility assessment reports.

Job specific roles and responsibilities

The position holder is expected to work on the following:

·         Literature review for the baseline and health facility assessments

·         Develop Database for the survey of both the child immunization and mothers TT survey data set and health facility assessment

·         Perform data cleaning, analysis and report writing of the baseline survey and health facility assessment that would be used as a baseline for the project in the newly included four project woredas

·         Develop a baseline information for the project

·         Submit the draft EPI coverage survey report including factors affecting completion of vaccination in the community

o    Immunization coverage of children between children age 15 to 23 months of age

o    Immunization coverage of women with 1-months of age old

o    knowledge, attitude and practice of mothers on immunization will be explored,

o    factors affecting utilization of vaccination services among care takers

·         Draft report on the Health facility assessment and baseline survey separately

·         Presentation of the findings and recommendation of the survey and health facility assessment separately

·         Incorporate comments on the draft report and during the validation meeting and share the final report both for baseline survey and health facility assessment  

·         Lessons from the study result would be shared to stakeholders

·         Perform any other activities based on Line manager’s assignment

 

 

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES

QUALIFICATION

·         Professionals with minimum of first degrees in health, statistics or and other related field from recognized institution of higher learning

EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in designing and conducting surveys and Health facility assessments
  • Strong experience in research analysis and write up
  • Experience in leading surveys, assessments in hard to reach and pastoral areas

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITY

  • Familiarity with the newborn and child health situation in Ethiopia in general and Somali region in particular;
  • Knowledge and experience using WHO 2015 immunization coverage survey guide is a plus
  • Excellent data analysis and report writing skills in English language;
  • Proficiency in computer skills such as EPI Info and SPSS

PERCENTAGE OF TRAVEL (Out of duty station if applicable) 

 The position holder will spend up to 50% of his time on the project implementation areas.
