Currently SNV Ethiopia is working in the eight+ regional states of Ethiopia which includes– Addis Ababa, Afar, Somali, Gambella, Benishangul, SNNPR, Oromia, Amhara and Tigray regional states, providing technical assistance and program implementation in the major 3 sectors including Agriculture, WASH and Energy. Through its work in agriculture, SNV in Ethiopia supports the development of number of value chains such as milk and milk products, honey and beeswax, oilseeds and edible oil, fruit and pulses, livestock and horticulture. This takes a value chain development approach, with special focus on improving access to sustainable markets for smallholder farmers and by developing business-to-business relations and improving business development services.

Feed the Future Ethiopia: Livelihoods for Resilience Activity (GRAD II project) is a five-years USAID funded project designed to enable 97,900 PSNP households to graduate from PSNP with longer-term resilience. It is implemented by a consortium of five development partners CARE, SNV, ORDA, ASE and REST. The consortium is led by CARE-Ethiopia and is implemented in three regions, Amhara, SNNPR and Tigray. SNV-Ethiopia is a technical partner leading the implementation of the VCD/ market system development component of the project.

  Objectives of the assignment

  •  To transfer the knowledge and equip DAs, horticulture/crop experts, and model farmers with skills of ware and seed potato production  
  •  To demonstrate ware and seed potatoes production using improved practices and varieties having  merits in terms of yield, and market preference
  • To demonstrate potato post-harvest technologies
  • To design and develop a potato seed system to reach a large number of PSNP households
  • To coach potato seed multipliers after they are trained and make follow-up cases           

  •  Document all the process and outcome and provide recommendations for further improvement  

Job Requirements

The trainer to be delegated for this particular assignment should possess the following competency and academic qualifications:

  • The trainer must possess profound experience, knowledge and skill in Agriculture (with particular focus in horticulture and potato production
  •  At least 5 years of practical experience working in horticulture sector.
  •  Experience in undertaking similar assignment/s in practical training in ware and seed potato production;
  • An in depth knowledge and good understanding of the potato sector, and specifically potato seed system in Ethiopia.
  • Degree in Agriculture (Plant/Horticultural science), rural development and related fields
  •  Proven experience in delivering training to farmers and extension agents on potato seed multiplication
  •  Regional presence is preferred
  • Integrity, timeliness, openness to learn, willingness to have long term engagement with SNV Ethiopia

  •  Financial proposal that indicates the all-inclusive fixed total contract price, supported by a breakdown of costs. The price submitted should include any applicable tax.
  •  Copy of business license, tax registration certificate and or any other legal documents should be annexed.

All interested firms should submit the signed and stamped hard copy of the technical and financial proposals.

  • The technical and financial proposals should be submitted in a separate envelope marked as “TECHNICAL PROPOSAL”, and “FINANCIAL PROPOSAL”.
  •   The deadline for submission of applications is November 11, 2019.
