Job Description

The Storyteller is a member of the CURE Ethiopia Hospital, and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the CURE Mission Support Centre (MSC) Marketing Department. The position acts as a liaison and connection among the CURE programs, the MSC, and the growing community of friends and supporters of CURE.  The primary mediums for the CURE Ethiopia Hospital Storyteller communications are the written word, a camera, the Internet, and social media tools (e.g. WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc.) as provided and prescribed by the MSC Marketing Department.

  • Document overall life and activity at the hospital. Highlight staff, visitors, events, celebrations, spiritual outreaches, medical clinics and training through blogs, photo essays, and video and social media posts.
  • Document the overall experience of children who are undergoing treatment at a CURE hospital.
  • Gather basic information on patients including contact information, parent/guardian information, before/after photos, story and treatment dates as needed for hospital donor reporting. Etc.

Job Requirement

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Photojournalism, Photography, Communications, Marketing or related degree, or equivalent amount of related experience.

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience with photography, videography and photojournalism.
  • Experience with Internet social media tools including Facebook, Skype, YouTube, Twitter, blogs and email.
  • Experience using, or exposure to, Adobe Light room and Final Cut Pro X, or related software.
  • Experience using, or exposure to, Mac OS X
  • .Previous experience serving overseas preferred, but not required.
  • Advanced photography and video competence regarding DSLR cameras, lighting, composition, editing, etc.
  • Excellent ability to write and communicate in short-form for a western audience.
