Hope for Justice is recruiting for the following position in Sodo/Eden Lighthouse:

Social Worker/Psychologist for Lighthouse

The Social Worker/Psychologist will be responsible for providing individual counselling, group counselling and life skills training for vulnerable girls. In addition, she/he will be responsible for family tracing and supporting girls to reintegrate with their families or transition to alternative care. Accurate and timely documentation of services provided to the girls is essential. Hope for Justice has a rigorous Child Safeguarding policy that all staff are required to comply with. 

Major Duties and Responsbilities:

  • Professional assessment of each child’s psychological and emotional status
  • Provide psychosocial support including individual and group counselling
  • Provide Life Skills lessons to children based on our curriculum
  • Trace the children’s families and reintegrate the children, providing support to the family
  • Follow up all children after reintegration according to Hope for Justice’s procedures

Duration of contract: 3 months (has a possibility of extension)

Job Requirements

General Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Amharic
  • Ability to document all services provided to children
  • Ability to relate well to children, especially vulnerable children
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work within the Christian ethos of Hope for Justice and promote this when required.

Qualifications: 

  • Degree in psychology or Social Work (Knowing Wolaytigna language is advantageous)

 Work Experience: 

  • At least 1 year of experience working as social worker, preferrably with an NGO
