VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation is an international development organization based in Zurich, Switzerland and has been operating for several decades worldwide. HELVETAS is registered in Ethiopia as a foreign charity to operate in the working areas of Rural Infrastructure, Natural Resources Management, Support to Civil Society Organizations and Local Government, Skill Development and Education, and Emergency Responses. HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation Ethiopia is presently looking for a motivated and competent professional for its Natural Resource Management (NRM) project which is implemented in the Borana Zone of Oromia National Regional State.

Position-: Governance Officer
Reporting to the Project Manager, NRM Borana Project

Major Duties and responsibilities:

The Governance project Officer will be responsible to provide the key thematic and process support to the national implementation organization(s) in regard to local governance and peacebuilding (outcome 4) of NRM-Borana project. The incumbent is responsible to strengthen both the customary institutions and the local government institutions in their respective roles, enabling them to understand each other’s roles, respect those roles and collaborate effectively to achieve overall better local governance and conflict prevention/resolution in the Borana Zone, which will in turn result in improved Natural Resource Management and livelihoods for the people

Terms and Conditions:
Duty station: Yabello, with intensive traveling in the project intervention areas

Duration: For the duration of the project’s Phase I, which ends in August 2020; renewable based on performance and continuity of the project

Salary & benefits: As per the salary scale of the organization for the position, and benefit packages and other terms in line with HELVETAS National Personnel Regulation 2018.

Master or Bachelor’s degree in Social Anthropology, Sociology, Peacebuilding, Governance, or other related fields; Minimum of 5 years’ NGOs work experience in bringing customary institution and local government structures together on issues related to natural resource governance in pastoralist areas
Other required skills; Fluent in English, Afaan Oromo, and Amharic languages; practical experience to work with various ethnic groups; Excellent communication, facilitation and networking skills with a wide range of actors across geographical areas; Computer skill in using MS-Office applications (Ms-Word, Excel, Acess, PowerPoint, Outlook)
