Who we are
SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

Your role....
As an Associate Program Manager, Alternative Child Care and Child Safeguarding you will be in charge of the following:
- Adminsters varous youth related affars and activities
- Coordinates and guides the living arrangements of youths.
- Provides counseling and identifies youth’s need.
- Searches and/or designs training programs for youths.
- Searches for educational opportunities locally and abroad for youths.
- Follows-up the admission of youth to training and educational opportunities locally and abroad.
- Follows- up the living condition of youths at youth homes.
- Organize training and recreational programs for youths.
- Searches for apprenticeship opportunities for the youth with organizations and administers such placement and follow-up.
- Searches for employment opportunities for the youth with organizations and handles the placement and follow-up of such opportunities.
- Searches organizations that establish small projects for youth to find such opportunities for SOS-Children’s Villages Ethiopia children.
- Work closely with program staff to study and organize self-employment
- Keeps informed of whereabouts of all community integrated youth, keeps proper records of all youths who are in different training centers, colleges, universities and assists them in all possible alternatives.
- Assists youth to find rented houses for living.
- Administers the living allowance of the Youth
- Facilitate the Payment of school and training fees on behalf of the youth.
- Follows-up the education of the school, domestically and abroad.
- Supervise youth home leaders
- Performs other similar duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator for ACC
- Follows-up the admission of youth to training and educational opportunities locally and abroad
- Work closely with youth leaders to study and organize self-employment.
- Conducts visit to youths in higher institutions under the Program Location and other forms Alternative Child Care (ACC) families.
- Facilitates for the payment of living allowance for all community integrated youth.
- Ensures the payment of school and training fees on behalf of the youth.
- Provides/facilitates counseling services to youth.
- Coordinates and monitors the work of Aunts, Youth care co-workers and Community social workers.
- Directs the professional development of Aunts, Youth care co-workers and Community social workers.
- Evaluate and monitor the services provided by Youth care co-workers, Aunts and Other forms ACC guardians/caregivers.
- Ensures Other forms ACC families are empowered to create a caring family environment for their children.
- Keeps informed the whereabouts of all community integrated youths, keeps proper records of all youths who are in different training centers, colleges, universities and assists them in all possible alternatives.
- Prepare/consolidate monthly/quarterly and annual progress reports of youth programs and other forms (OFACC) program.
- Conduct performance review of Aunts, Youth leaders and Community social workers
- Assists in coordinating the works of the alternative child care programme at the location by receiving directions from Program Coordinator or Programme Director.
- Work in partnership with stakeholders towards the works of foster care, kinship care and local adoption programmes.
- Design short and long term strategies and implement youth development of the location.
- Lead and coordinate Youth care co-workers, SOS Aunts, Community social workers and Foster families.
- Participate in team activities of the location.
- Capacitate and support the upcoming village educator towards the success of educational and talent development of children.
- Will handle additional responsibilities given to him by his immediate supervisor or location management.

The must haves
- BA Degree in sociology, Social work or similar discipline.
- 4 years of relevant work experiences particularly with children and youth
- Fluency in spoken and written English and local language(s).
- Experience in project management, planning, monitoring and evaluation.
- Good knowledge and understanding of children’s rights and rights-based approaches in the development of programmes.
- Awareness and understanding of social development issues including gender, education, health, HIV/AIDS, etc.
- Understanding of human resource development.
- Experience in budget development.
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under high pressure.
- Positive and professional approach: highly organised, results oriented, using initiative and keeping commitments.
- Computer literacy (MS Office and MS project)
- Experience in community mobilization.
- Knowledge of national policy developments in the area of child welfare and youth development.
- Problem solving and analysis skills.
- Knowledge on stakeholder management.
