Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for a Head of Finance and Admin who will be responsible for effective control of financial and human resources, a and administrative systems of SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Hawassa.

Your role....

As a Head of Finance and Admin you will be in charge of the following:

  • Overseeing risk management and legal activities such letters of agreement, contracts & leases;
  • Overseeing administrative functions for ensuring smooth daily operations of school activities (the physical environment is safe and conducive, financial operations are running smoothly and physical properties are in order);
  • Upgrading and implementing an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards and procedures;
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping HGS Principal, NO Finance and Admin Coordinator and the General Manager of the Social Business informed of all critical issues;
  • Managing the activities of the Admin Team, including coaching, development and performance management
  • Ensuring all transactions are complete and accurate to enable month end returns to be submitted.
  • Maintaining accurate records of the school’s year on year income and expenditure ensuring correct coding. 
  • Ensuring the proper collection, recording and banking of any money received.
  • Preparing the year-end financial accounts for audit and liaising with the Auditors prior to sign-off.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts, projections, and other relevant reports in consultation with NO Finance and Admin Coordinator and HGS Principal.
  • Supervising the production of regular salary payments and records, Provident Fund and Pension contributions and allowances in accordance with contract agreement and employee handbook requirements.
  • Completing all reconciliations and returns as required, reporting any issues to the Managing Principal.
  • Managing personnel procedures in relation to recruitment, development & training, holidays and appraisals, ensuring these are properly documented, and advise on relevant policies
  • Maintaining efficient and effective office management systems and procedures, for example filing, answering the phones, organizing electronic and other mail and correspondence.
  • Overseeing maintenance activities and updating of information systems and infrastructure (water pipelines, electricity, internet, building, furniture, telephone, etc)
  • Assisting with the preparations for school events, projects and functions. 
  • Ensuring safety and regular update of the fixed asset register, identify/ notify management assets due for disposal and participate in midyear/ annual stock counts and assets.
