The Fred Hollows Foundation is one of Australia’s most respected and trusted international development organisations whose vision is to end avoidable blindness and ensure the work of Fred Hollows lives on.
Ethiopia is one of The Foundation’s largest funded programs, focused on the Elimination of Trachoma. Up until now our program has focused on the complex and direct delivery of services to help those in need. With strong foundations in place, we are now looking to enter into a new phase of our programming building on the work that we have already done.
In line with the priorities of the New Global Strategy, the next phase of our programs will see us moving towards a system strengthening approach ensuring the work that we do, is sustainable and integrated within the local health systems. Moving forward we will focus on the following key areas;
  • Support and Strengthen the health systems – integrating trachoma into broader eye health services
  • New Comprehensive Eye Care Programs (cataract, diabetic retinopathy, Uncorrected Refractive Error (URE) and trachoma)
  • Sustainability - through increased investment and support we will work hand in hand with local governments
About the Position
The Operations Coordinator will be accountable for oversight of The Fred Hollows Foundation Ethiopia (FHFE) operations, serving as the link between various departments, employees and vendors within the country office. Externally, the Operations Coordinator will act as a link with relevant counterparts at the globalm office to ensure alignment of CO and global operations.
Specific responsibilities include:
  •  Develop policies and standard operating procedures as required.
  • Manage outsourced services such as IT, office leases, security leases, office maintenance, fleet, and other relevant agencies in Ethiopia.
  • Support on-boarding of new employees on operational functions.
  • Work with different departments to identify and deliver FHFE’s operational indicators and compliance requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments as required to identify, plan and implement operational requirements for The Foundation’s activities, ensuring projects meet budget and timeframe requirements, and the strategic objectives of The Foundation are supported.
  • Manage the FHFE operating environment, working with team leads to ensure compliance with FHF policies, procedures and relevant in country legislation


Job Requirements

About You! To be successful in this role, we are seeking someone with the following experience and skills.
  • 5 years and above experience in similar roles or office operations management.
  • Experience working in a busy NGO or corporate set up.
  •  BA degree in Management, Business Administration or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication skills including fluency in written and spoken English and the ability to write effectively for varied purposes and audiences including presentation, facilitation, and preparation of business letters and reports;
  • High sense of integrity, ethics and confidentiality;
  • Willingness and ability to take the initiative not only in identifying problems but also in suggesting and implementing agreed solutions.
