PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To coordinate Girls’ Education Challenge (GEC) Leave No Girl Behind project and support an effective and efficient management of the project by the implementing partner – Friendship Support Association (FSA). The project is being implemented since Nov. 2018 in Aisaita and Afambo Districts of Afar region and will continue running till Oct 2023 with a total outlay of 1.9mio EURO. The financial support is obtained from DFiD and PIN (People in Need) is a consortium lead agency.  The project officer will be responsible for overall coordination of all the components of the project, maintaining effective communication between members of the project team including consortium members.

The position holder is expected to understand in-depth the Girls’ Education challenge and Child Protection practical strategies to meet the project objective effectively and efficiently.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure project expenditure, including planning of budgets and project activities are within budget, liaising with finance staff
  • Coordinate and facilitate the production of donor and internal reports in time and in good standard.
  • To be the first contact point regarding child protection/safeguarding issues and ensure safeguarding standards are maintained in the project
  • To maintain effective communication between partner and WHH, ensuring relevant sharing of information and to provide administrative support for the project, including initiation and maintenance of systems and databases
  • Ensure the project works in compliance with WHH, PIN as well as DFID policy and procedures and report any concerns to the relevant individuals and authorities
  • To prepare, organize management meetings of FSA and WHH and to ensure proper documentation and communication of meeting minutes
  • Coordinate and prepare the first draft of project revision and budget amendment
  •  In consultation with the technical advisor to prepare budget forecasts in alignment with the requirement of DFID
  • Acts as first contact point for urgent requests coming up from PIN, and FSA
  • Support and facilitate the day to day implementation of the project activities by the partner in the field in accordance to the standards of WHH, PIN and DFID  
  • Conduct regular monitoring of project progress in the field and provide feedback
  • Maintains data management in PROMIS
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested

Duty Station:                         

  • WHH Country Office Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with frequent travel to the project sites.

Reports to:                             

  • Head of Programmes

Contract Period:                    

  • One year with possibility of extension-based on employee’s  performance and availability of fund

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree in Education, sociology, social work, development studies with demonstrated experience of Social protection and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project cycle management
  • At least 4 (four) years’ experience in project coordination capacity
  • Experience of coordinating, monitoring partner implemented donor funded programs;
  • Experience of financial planning, management and control
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills (English)
  • Excellent knowledge of current software packages
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Experience of working in international development is desirable.

Language:

  •  Proficiency in spoken and written English
