VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT No. 01 - 2020

The Ethiopia Commodity Exchange Employee Saving and Credit Cooperative (ECX_SACCO) was established in 2011 G.C with the objective of providing a mechanism for ECX employees to save and borrow at affordable rate in order to meet the their’ socioeconomic needs. ECX_SACCO would like to recruit motivated and qualified applicants for the following position.

 1.     Position Title:            Senior Accountant

         Reports to:                 ECX_SACCO General Manager/ Management Board

         Duty Station:              AddisAbaba, ECX Head Office

         Availability:                As soon as possible

         Salary:                        Negotiable

 Job Purpose

The purpose of the job is to ensure that all payments made are as per the Bylaw, Credit and Saving Procedure and Financial Manual. Timely recording of financial transactions and verify the accuracy of financial as well as accounting documents; to prepare monthly bank reconciliation statement, to assist external auditors for the financial audit work; to ensure timely settlement account closure at the end of the financial year, to prepare interim and annual financial statements within agreed format; to timely and properly file all financial documents and reports and manage staff assigned under your direct supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the ECX_SACCO’s accounting records under procedures established by management as described in the ECX_SACCO’s Bylaw and procedures.
  • Maintain the highest degree of accuracy and knowledge of the ECX_SACCO’s records. Balance and summarize all cash, check disbursements, and journal transactions on a daily basis in preparation for posting totals to the general ledger.
  • On a daily basis ensure that the general ledger is in balance. All mistakes or errors made are to be corrected prior to leaving the ECX_SACCO after the close of business.
  • Ensure that the member share and loan ledger cards balance with the general ledger totals.
  • Prepare a subsidiary ledger for each balance sheet account. On a monthly basis the subsidiary ledger is to be compared to the general ledger account to ensure that they balance.
  • Reconcile all bank statements monthly to ensure that the ECX_SACCO book balance is the same as the statement balance upon reconciliation.
  • Prepare all bills and taxes for payment. Ensure that all bills are paid on time and take advantage of any discounts for early payment.
  • Print all monthly reports and retain in a binder for review by supervising authority.
  • Prepare the balance sheet or statement of financial condition, the income statement, and the delinquent loan list for the month end by the 10th of the following month.
  • On a monthly and quarterly basis, prepare the comparison of the actual financial results to the budgeted numbers so that the manager may present this information to the board.
  • Assists the Management Committee and/or Manager  in preparation of plan, budget, and report of the SACCO;
  • Supervises, coach, mentor and manage the performance of staff under your supervision.
  • Continually develop a better understanding of SACCO history, philosophy, organization, bylaws, operational procedures, member services and desires.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • MA/MBA/ACCA or BA in Accounting, Finance or any other related fields.
  • 5+ years of experiences with BA and 3+ years of experience in MBA/MA/ACCA , as accountant in Micro-Finance, Saving & Credit Cooperatives, and other related institutions
  • Excellent communication (oral, written) and interpersonal skill;
  • Responsive to internal/external customers;
  • Is action oriented/drive for result/result focused;
  • Demonstrate ability to work under tight deadlines;
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and professionalism;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Skilled to use Accounting Software’s (Peachtree) and MS Office (Word, Excel).
