Plan International Ethiopia is looking for Technical Lead – Enterprise Development/Youth Economic Empowerment for SNNP Program Area who will be reporting to the Chief of Party.

ROLE PURPOSE

The post holder is responsible for providing business development technical support to community businesses and entrepreneurship training to existing, new business owners, and local aspiring entrepreneurs in the communities around Hawassa industrial park.  S/he will also contribute to technical design and implementation, and reporting for the WWA project. 

Dimensions of the Role

  • Works with other WWA team members, and across units within Plan International Ethiopia as a YEE subject matter specialist.
  • Provides input on the enterprise development activities and learning to the communication team, and supports brand development.
  • Link up with regional and city administration job creation units as required for the success of the WWA project

Accountabilities

The Technical Lead – Y&EE Team member role will encompass the following activities:

Program Management and Technical Support

  • Participates in the management/backstopping of the multi-year USAID -funded project, including providing technical and project management support primarily in the areas of value chain analysis, business development services, and entrepreneurship training and technical support for locally-owned businesses near the Hawassa Industrial Park.  Should be experienced in working with women-owned businesses and women entrepreneurs.
  • Collaborates with the WWA project team and Plan International Ethiopia Country Office in designing and implementing interventions, identifying professional YEE staff for implementation, and generating project-related learning.
  • Identifies project monitoring and evaluation needs for local businesses and entrepreneurs, and works with the M&E team in developing M&E action plans, and supporting the documentation of effective practices and program impacts related to Plan programs and learning;
  • Promotes program quality by identifying technical needs of local businesses, and coordinating the necessary technical assistance;
  • Represents Plan to colleague agencies, government, foundations and the private sector when requested;
  • Presents results of implementation at forums and working groups;
  • Participates in the development of organizational processes and procedures to ensure efficient operations of program implementation

Representation and Dissemination:

  • Responds to requests for information from the donor.
  • Liaises with other staff members to share information regarding projects, to discuss field needs, and to develop strategies;
  • Ensures coordination and information sharing on enterprise development activities with similar projects in the Hawassa area
  • Represents WWA at community meetings and meetings with local government and private sector partners, and at internal and external events, as requested.

Job Requirements

Technical Expertise, Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in business, enterprise development, and entrepreneurship or related field
  • At least five years professional experience in development organizations working on labour market scans, business development, entrepreneurship, especially for girls and young women.
  • Minimum five years of  development programme related experience in technical areas of value chain analysis, business development service provision, and entrepreneurship, participatory engagement and gender inclusivity
  • Experience working on multi-year grant funded projects particularly USAID-funded projects
  • Experience and/or demonstrable knowledge of best practices in business development services, value chain analysis, and entrepreneurship, especially with women
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills
  • Fluency in written English required
  • Excellent representation, planning, and management skills;
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of the office, providing technical support to designated local businesses
  • Demonstrated capabilities as a team player and ability to work with a range of different donors
  • Strong communication skills
