Job Description

Being an employee of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Ethiopia Child Protection Project Officer is expected to represent NRC in a responsible manner and always act in accordance with NRC’s Code of Conduct.  

Background:

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is present in five regions in Ethiopia, providing refugees and internally displaced people with emergency relief and help them to rebuild their lives. NRC works within the sectors of Education, Shelter, WASH, Livelihood and Food Security, ICLA (Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance), and Child Protection.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Generic responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines

·         Implement delegated CC project portfolio according to plan of action

·         Prepare and develop status reports as required by management

·         Ensure proper filing of documents

  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist

·         Promote and share ideas for technical improvement

Specific responsibilities:

·         Assist to the child protection coordinator in plan, design, and develop tools and strategies for community mobilization, case management, psycho social support and viable alternative care arrangements to ensure all children-at-risk are identified and supported in a comprehensive manner that reflects their best interests, particularly in regards to family and alternative care arrangements;

·         Assist the child protection coordinator in design assessment tools and collecting on going data, periodical need assessment and prepare update on need basis to ensure necessary input for reporting and planning purpose. 

·         Assist the child protection coordinator in collecting updated project performance and prepare weekly, monthly and periodic reports as required

·         Assist the child protection coordinator in prepare procurement plan, work plan and activities plan for child protection in collaboration with the child protection team leaders

·         Assess the child protection materials needs in collaboration with the logistic team and facilitate purchase requisition and ensure all quality services and goods delivered to the beneficiaries

·         Ensure that the communal feeding of UASCs and children-at-risk is organised and the number of children to be fed is updated and provided to the Logistics department for timely purchasing of food

·         Organise and arrange capacity building by undertaking child protection trainings/workshops for community members, foster families, teachers, NRC social workers, IPs, and other external stakeholders as identified in collaboration with the child protection team

·         Assist the child protection coordinator to collect and document all beneficiaries lists in soft and hard copy in collaboration with the child protection team   

·         Any other activities as may be required by the NRC Child Protection Project Coordinator.  

Job Requirements

Generic professional competencies:

·         University degree in relevant area - psychology, social work, Sociology & etc. and minimum three years of working experience from working as a Project Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context

·         Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts

·         Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities

·         Fluent English skills

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of the Shire Operation Area.
  • Knowledge of the Tigrigna local language
  • Prepare monthly and annual child protection report
  • Skills working with big and diverse team
