The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

The Senior Researcher is expected to lead the biotechnology research team. The research team, among others, is engaged in the development of simple and rapid diagnostics (molecular, immunological), therapeutics (monoclonal antibody preparation, blood fractionation, identification and characterization of therapeutic compounds from various sources) and others.

The applicant is expected to have strong background and skill in molecular biology (such as cloning, protein expression and purification, conjugation, labeling), immunological methods (such as identification and characterization of antigens, immunizing lab animals, monoclonal antibody preparation) as well as the know-how on bioinformatics.

In addition, she/he will be expected to write grant applications, prepare project specific protocols, implement and monitor projects, supervise postgraduate students, write manuscripts.
