Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is a world leading organization committed to the treatment and reintegration of patients suffering from Obstetric Fistula and the training and deployment of qualified midwives to prevent Obstetric Fistula and other child birth injuries.

HFE is founded in 1974 by Drs Catherine and Reginald Hamlin and has been caring for the women of Ethiopia but the services of the founders reached 60 years. HFE consists of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital and five regional hospitals, rehabilitation, and reintegration center prevention services and a midwifery college. HFE deploys midwives into rural health centers across the country and provide mentoring and other support services to these facilities.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The radiographer is generally responsible for preparing and safely positioning patients in order to get the most accurate images. His / her tasks tech may range from assisting the radiologist with advanced preparation and testing to administrative tasks, such as organizing work schedules, looking after the and ensuring the safety of the medical equipment in the radiology unit and maintaining relevant patient records.

• assessing patients and their clinical requirements to determine appropriate radiographic techniques
• Keep up-to-date with current techniques and developments in Radiographic and Imaging procedures to achieve a high standard of image quality by following exposure charts accurately, checking images thoroughly and following assessment guidelines
• performing a range of radiographic examinations on patients to produce high-quality images and review images to determine whether they are of sufficient quality to allow the requesting physician to make a diagnosis.
• observing and maintaining contact with patients during their waiting, examination and post-examination stay in the department;
• taking responsibility for radiation safety in your work area including checking equipment for malfunctions/errors, managing referrals to ensure patients receive a radiation dose as low as reasonably achievable and safely supervising visiting staff and patients in radiation work areas;
• assisting in more complex radiological examinations working with the radiologist and surgeons;
• providing support and reassurance to patients, taking into account their physical and psychological needs;
• paying close attention to detail, such as annotating images correctly, to prevent errors and completing documentation quickly and accurately;
• Participate in flexible working arrangements to include working on evenings/weekends and holidays/ shift rotas/on call duty/ out of working hours, subject to the needs of the hospital
• supervising assistant practitioners, students and other staff, and delivering appropriate education and training;
• Understanding and observing health and safety at work and welfare issues, including ionizing radiation regulations, to protect yourself and others.

Minimum Requirement

Education:

• Diploma in X-Ray technician (Radiography).

Experience:

• At least 5 years’ relevant experience

Required skill:

• Radiological technicians must understand how X-rays work in order to take proper internal pictures.
• Technicians must also know how to administer liquids that will reflect X-rays. This is particularly important when doctors want to check a patient’s arteries or intestines.
• Radiological technicians must also be trained in the safety precautions associated with radiation.
• Must also be adept at communication, both with a patient and with the patient’s care provider.
