Summary of position:
Under the direct supervision of the Property Manager and Material Assistant, the Gardener is responsible for all horticultural aspects of the grounds such as landscaping and design, planting of gardens, and general maintenance and upkeep of the grounds and outdoors and supervising the work of general labourers, and/or contractors and performs other duties as required.

Essential qualifications:
Essential Qualifications
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
• Ethiopian General Secondary Education Certificate

Language:
• Conversational level of English
• Fluency in Amharic (spoken)

Experience:
• Minimum of 3 years of recent experience working with a diplomatic mission, or with an international or non-governmental organization
  • *Recent is defined as within the last 5 years
Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of general gardening procedures;
• Knowledge of use of appropriate products and equipment;
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements regarding gardening;
• Knowledge of plants appropriate for a commercial compound in Ethiopia

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
• Experience working with a Canadian organization, including embassy and Canadian NGO.
• Fluency in English or French.
