Currently, our business unit Dereja is undertaking projects in tackling the issue of youth unemployment. Dereja is a pioneer in establishing Career Center services in Higher Education Institutions, organizing regional and national job fairs and design and deliver employability skills training for fresh graduates. Thus, we are looking for a qualified candidate to lead regional project activities as a Regional Manager in Addis Ababa and the regions.

Job Summary

The Regional Manager will have the overall responsibility of actively delivering services for the selected universities. S/he will give strategic guidance to the implementation of core activities that are undertaken by Dereja to enhance the employability skills of graduates and link them with possible job opportunities. S/he will represent Dereja at every level on various communications and engagements with all stakeholders. S/he will maintain effective liaison and working relationship with the appointed universities/TVETs focal and appointed regional project team. Additionally, the Program Manager is responsible to report directly Dereja Program Director and to work in collaboration with the Dereja team and other unites by representing the unit of Candidates and Institution management.

Detail Responsibilities

A.     Project Management  

  • In collaboration with other Dereja units, develop a clear annual and quarterly plan for each service line namely, Dereja Academy, Job fair clinics and Job Fairs and Dereja.com and career center services or other related projects.
  • Review and prepare the project’s regional work, travel, logistics, and budget plans
  • Manage monthly, quarterly and annual work plans for project logistics and activities, identifying and responding to the implications of interdependencies between different sub-project lines.
  • In collaboration with the communication, the team develops a clear communication and campaign plan to promote the activities of Dereja to directly reach university fresh graduates.
  • The regional manager will be the contact person all communications regarding the project in selected regions
  • Deploying efficient and standard communication channels with the regional project team, university career center team, and IMS management
  • Demonstrate leadership and guidance for other team members specifically in the Candidates and Institution management unit
  • Foster good communication and relationship with University officials, career center staff students and various stakeholders
  • Develop monitoring and Evaluation tools or methods, to evaluate progress and impact.

B.      Implementation

  • Develop a method of assessing the performance of the project regarding all the activities mentioned in section A
  • Ensure that project activities are implemented and outputs achieved as planned and within the developed schedule
  • Review progress regularly with Program Director, submitting, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports outlining progress, issues and actions being taken in the standard format
  • Proactively identify and monitor any risks to delivery and develop action plans to address issues identified

C.      Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Implementing a project monitoring and evaluation process for regional project activities that meet the basic internal monitoring and outcome reporting requirements
  • Ensure the project is collecting organized information/data on regional project activities
  • Ensure that the project is regularly (at least quarterly) conducting beneficiary surveys, collecting other data through relevant sources, developing case studies.
  • Oversee baseline, mid-term and final evaluation ensuring that learning and recommendations from those evaluations are explicitly incorporated into the project’s future implementation activity.

D.      Team Leadership

  • Leading a team consisting of university and candidate relation coordinators, training facilitators and a job-fair team of interns in carrying out project activities
  • Hold monthly project team meetings and send minutes and key action points to Program Director
  • Provide leadership and motivation to his/her regional team building a values-based team working and individual staff skills relevant to the project
  • Regularly provide both informal and formal coaching and feedback to the regional project team
  • Effectively and promptly deal with any poor performance and actively recognize and encourage strong performance
  • Actively seek feedback on own performance and effectiveness from both Program Director and  IMS leadership
  • Hold in-person supervision sessions with the regional project team at least once per quarter (to discuss progress against their personal development objectives and work targets) and carry out in-person annual appraisals.
  • Work in collaboration, coordination, and synchronization with other regional manager and Dereja team

E.      Training  

  • The training manager is responsible for designing and  delivering training for university coordinators and training facilitators in organizing various training activities for fresh graduates
  • The regional manager is responsible for overseeing training delivery activities carried out by university coordinators and training facilitators
  • The regional manager is responsible to evaluate and assess impact of the training

Term of Employment: One year

Job Requirements

  • Experience in planning and development of career development programs
  • Experience in implementing regional project activities
  • Experience in taking a leadership role for project implementation and working in teams in a collaborative and consultative manner
  • Sound knowledge of public sector operations and understanding of career center strategy of the Ethiopian Ministry of Science and Higher Education
  • Excellent interpersonal and team leadership skills--demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff and students
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and meet deadlines in a timely way with attention to detail and quality
  • Available to travel frequent times out of Addis Ababa
  • Excellent English is written and oral communication, as well as basic computer skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Basic problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Able to perform in a tight schedule
  • Ability to lead and work with a team
  • Ability to follow up
  • Takes initiative, responsible, good time management and organization skills
  • Flexibility and tolerance

Education and Experience:

  • Masters or B.A degree in leadership, Management, Engineering, and Social Science Fields
  • At least 5 years of direct experience in leadership position providing program management and technical assistance
