Job Summary

Carry out overall environmental and social management and plan related activities during the implementation of the programme, project appraisal check list/criteria preparation and implementation, comprehensive environmental and social aspects appraisal, review and check the adequacy of environmental and social impacts assessment of project studies and designs, produce environmental and social  impact assessment reports, assist in building capacity in environmental impact assessment, and other related activities.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and experience:

• BSc/MSc degree from a recognized university in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or   related fields with 10/8 years of work experience

  Senior Environmental specialist shall have comprehensive experience and knowledge in environmental and social matters including environmental and social impacts assessments, in  project feasibility studies, construction supervision in compliance with environmental parameters set by Ethiopian laws and regulations, review and implementation of environmental protection and mitigation plans;Work experience as environmental specialist with Town Water Utilities and/or Regional Water Bureaus will be advantageous.

  Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge in International and Ethiopian Environmental Policy
  • Knowledge in Urban and infrastructural planning
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English
  • Able to prepare Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environmental Management and Monitoring Plans, including environmental baseline surveys, environmental quality monitoring, site surveys and inspections
  • Knowledge of functioning of Water Utilities is an advantageous
  • Strong monitoring and reporting skills (periodic technical reports)
  • Proficiency in the usage of computers and office software packages (word processing, spread sheets etc) and experience in handling of web-based data and information management systems;
  • Monthly Salary: 19,000 ETB
  • Duration: one year contract with possible extension
