Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:   The position holder will be responsible for coordinating the ICCM, CMAM and IYCF activities in each woreda of Save the Children International implementation, Somali region. S/he will be responsible to provide technical support to HEWS and Woreda Health Office in the implementation of ICCM, CMAM and IYCF activities which contribute to the reduction of under-five mortality.

Reports to:  Humanitarian Response Program Manager 

Dimensions: Save the Children works in - regions in Ethiopia with a current staff complement of approximately - staff and current expenditure of approximately $90+ million each year.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Program management 

  • Manages the project unit's implementation of Therapeutic Feeding Program in agreement with the  National guideline of  management of SAM,
  • Makes sure that TFP and ICCM program is implemented according to the National protocol i.e. application of the admission and discharge criteria closely monitors and strictly follows anthropometry measurement.
  • Organizes all training materials and kits for each training
  • Identifies all trainers and trainees with responsible health offices
  • Organizes training venue and facilitates the training including clinical practice
  •  Works closely with District Health Office to ensure training is conducted on time and with acceptable standards
  • Liaisons with health offices on training schedule, sites and availing of all training kits
  • Conducts follow up after the training with HEW supervisors and District focal person
  • Produces reports of training, supervision and best practices and submit to the project manager
  • Participates in review meetings, quarter supervisions, and program monitoring
  • Ensures community mobilization and sensitization through Community Volunteers
  • Conduct regular field visits to provide supportive supervision to all HPs and HEWs
  • To provide timely activity and financial reports to the project manager and/or to sub-office finance unit
  • Ensures the availability of job aids, reporting formats, therapeutic products, and drugs for program implementation
  • Supports and liaise with the health center staff and provide on the job training and capacity building where required,
  • Creates and maintains a relationship with local health and other authorities and links the CMAM program with ICCM.
  • Organizes monthly report of SC/OTP/Community mobilization and report on time to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator/Resilience Project Manager and provides updates when needed.
  • Provides a daily/weekly/and monthly overview of drug items, RUTF, Therapeutic milk ration stocks supplied to beneficiaries.
  • Manages the stock levels of therapeutic products, drugs, and all other materials and alert the Coordinator in a timely manner as more materials are required,
  • Provide feedback and share lessons learned from the activity and financial reports
  • Upholds the image and values of SC at all

Monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance

  • Monitoring and evaluating jointly progress based on agreed indicators.
  • Plan and facilitate regularly scheduled reviews of projects with partners and stakeholders
  • Assist the Project M & E Coordinator in preparing program/project status reports as well as documenting lessons learned in specific technical areas for wider dissemination/use.
  • Document findings and recommendations of field visits for follow-up action review completeness, accuracy and timely submission of reports

Partner management

  • Building strong partnerships and working closely with Woreda and other non-governmental partners at a lower level.
  • To perform any other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the  Project Manager, sub-office
  • Foster collaborative environment and team spirit among partners
  • Closely work with partner organizations in the course of project planning activity and implementation

Other

  • Perform any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • At least 2-4 year experience in MNCH and Nutrition  programs with in-depth  and up-to-date knowledge in the technical areas,
  • Diploma or BSC in nursing or health officer; with four-year experience for diploma or two years for BSC Nurse/HO
  • Effective in time management and setting priorities, providing technical assistance  and follow up
  • Proven ability to write reports
  • Proven ability to work independently and in teams
  • Ability to meet deadlines and in delivering quality work
  • Ability to work in harsh circumstances and travel to field
  • Experience to facilitate and organize training in child health at large scale
  • Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications.
  • Fluency in the Somali language is advantageous
  • Knowledge of statistical software –Epi info and SPSS.
