Background
The “Supporting the Ministry of Mines” (SUMM) in Ethiopia project is a six-year project funded by the Government of Canada through the Department of Global Affairs (GAC). The project, started in 2016, is designed to strengthening the capacity and organizational management of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) at operational and strategic levels.
The project aims to implement priority capacity-building interventions, systems development and organizational initiatives to support country-driven strategies to encourage increased revenue generation and transparency, mitigation of negative environmental impacts and stimulation of sustainable economic growth. It also aims to enhance data acquisition capacity of the Geological Survey of Ethiopia (GSE), and strengthen mineral licensing and administration institutions of the MoMP.
Responsibilities
Through the SUMM Project, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum is looking for short-term consultants with expertise in a number of specialized areas. Assignments vary widely in scope and duration, with subject matter, duration, schedules and timing dependent on specific needs as requested by the various SUMM partners. Assignments may require some travel within Ethiopia to participate in activities.
The SUMM Project office wishes to develop a pool of resources on standing offer arrangements from which experts for specific assignments could be drawn as needs arise. There will be immediate assignments in some areas while assignments in other areas are anticipated over the next 2 years.

SUMM invites all interested individuals or firms to submit applications for the subject areas listed above. Firms are welcome to submit applications for specific individuals, in which case each individual’s credentials will be assessed, and proposed individuals will be accepted or rejected on a one-by-one basis. Firms will not be allowed to submit substitutions for assignments. Candidates should demonstrate experience working within the mining sector in Ethiopia. International experience with development partners is desired. Experience in Ethiopia or elsewhere in Africa would be a benefit. English, oral and written skills are highly desired.
