AMTP

The Agricultural Mechanisation and Technology for Smallholder Productivity (AMTP) project is financed by the German Government and implemented by GIZ. The objective of the project is to improve smallholder farmers’ access to quality mechanisation services. AMTP is working in Oromia (Arsi and Bale zones) as well as Amhara (West Gojam zone). The project works with various stakeholders such as private mechanisation service providers, farmers’ cooperative unions, governmental and none-governmental organisations to promote agricultural mechanisation in Ethiopia.

For its activities in Amhara, AMTP is looking for a qualified candidate as per the below details.


Responsibilities

  • Provision of technical advice and support related to agricultural mechanisation for project staff and different project partners
  • Supporting capacity development activities on agricultural machinery operation and maintenance.
  • Provide technical support and advice for different stakeholders (Ministry of Agriculture, Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, Regional and Zonal Bureaus of Agriculture as well as, farmers’ cooperative unions and private sector partners) geared at improving access to quality mechanisation services for smallholder farmers.


 Duties of the incumbent

  • Provide technical support to project partners, such as (but not limited to) farmers’ cooperative unions, regional and zonal agriculture mechanisation experts and private mechanisation service providers, mechanisation equipment dealers and mechanisation training centres.
  • Design, plan and execute/support hands-on training on the proper use, maintenance and repair of farm machinery and implements.
  • Support planning, coordination and implementation of on-farm demonstration activities of the project.
  • Monitor and ensure functionality and safety of the project machinery used for training and on-farm demonstrations.
  • Contribute to the overall project strategy development, operational and implementation plans.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders and partners on an on-going basis.
  • Represent the project in meetings, conferences and forums.
  • Contribute to project reporting and public relations activities


Other Duties/Additional Tasks

  • Supporting international short-term or long-term consultants working with the project area.
  • Consult routinely with the programme management regarding all kinds of activities.
  • Provide support in organisational and management questions
  • Any other tasks given by the project management.
  • Willingness to travel in project areas.

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • BSc/MSc in Farm Mechanisation, Agricultural Engineering or related fields

Professional experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant occupational experience in the agricultural mechanisation sector
  • Good working knowledge and experience in provision of hands-on agricultural mechanisation training.
  • Good knowledge of the private sector of agricultural mechanisation in Ethiopia
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Very good command of English and fluency in Amharic; additional Ethiopian languages are a plus.
