Amref Health Africa partners with the Government of Ethiopia and local communities to implement diversified health and WASH project portfolios throughout the country, focusing on three key programmatic areas: Reproductive Maternal, Neonatal, Child, Adolescent and Youth Health (RMNCAYH), Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and Communicable and Non-Communicable diseases. We implement projects in Addis Ababa, Afar, Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambella, Oromia, Somali, SNNP regions and nationwide health systems strengthening interventions focusing on the Health Extension Program.

Amref Health Africa is recruiting a Project Assistant to be based in Afar Awash 7 killo. S/he will report to the Project Manager.

Purpose of the Job:
Assisting the efficient and effective implementation of the Project

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual detail health communication implementation work plan in collaboration of project officers
  • Implementing project activity together with district health office, health facilities, health extension workers, schools representatives and other relevant project beneficiaries.
  • Reviewing the implementation work plan on timely and regular bases.
  • Performing needs assessment (from the project beneficiaries)
  • Collecting required information from the partners
  • Carry out necessary discussion to facilitate the implementation with stakeholders and partners
  • Conduct need assessment in implementation area  and provide response based on the gap
  • Identifying and selecting target beneficiaries in collaboration with partners
  • Develop and adopt report format
  • Collecting and compiling periodic reports
  • Organizing and facilitating trainings for the target group
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly review meeting with stakeholders
  • Provide targeted technical assistance to projects through field visits
  • Prepare work plan and cash advance request
  • Work with the program accountant, M & E officer and procurement officers to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in resource utilization
  • Organize and participate in review meetings, forums with partners
  • Gather, compile and disseminate case stories from the field
  • Effectively utilize the Amref information management system, HR information system and other knowledge management platforms
  • Will report to the project officer
  • Undertake other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Diploma in Health fields, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work and other field of studies in social science with experience of working on FGM
  • Experience of 3 years related area
  • Good believe in team spirit and Organizational rule and regulation
  • Familiarity with the government health system 
  • NGO experience  is an advantage
  • Good interpersonal  skills
  • Communication & writing skills in both Amharic & English
  • Excellent computer skills: Ms Windows, Ms Word and Excel,
  • In addition the ideal candidate must have strong analytical, problem solving and networking skills.
  • Be a team player and communicator and work under minimal supervision.
  • Has experience in pastoralist community and interest to work in hard areas to reach pastoralist community.
