Amref Health Africa, headquartered in Kenya, is the largest Africa based international non-governmental organisation (NGO) currently running programs in over 35 countries in Africa with lessons learnt over 60 years of engagement with governments, communities and partners to increase sustainable health access in Africa. Amref Health Africa also incorporates programme development, fundraising, partnership, advocacy, monitoring and evaluation, and has offices in Europe and North America as well as subsidiaries; Amref Flying Doctors, Amref Enterprises and the Amref International University. Amref Health Africa has been active in Ethiopia since the 1960s and became fully operational as an international NGO in 2002.

We are currently seeking a consultant firm to conduct Trachoma baseline and Impact Survey in seven districts of Afar region:

Purpose of the survey

The aim of this survey is to objectively measure the baseline and impact brought about by the trachoma elimination effort made in the districts in past and use the finding for programmatic decision.

Objectives of the survey

The following are specific objectives of the trachoma Impact and baseline surveys:

·         To measure  the prevalence of TF among children 1-9 years of age;

·         To measure the prevalence of TT among adults over the age of 15 years; and

·         To obtain evidence based household data of sanitation and hygiene for program decision making.

Scope of the consultancy

The trachoma survey will be conducted in 7 districts of afar; namely,

·         Telalak, Dalifage, Dewe which need impact survey and

·          Chifra, Gulina, Yalo and Megalle  need baseline survey

The potential consultancy firm is required to meet the following minimum requirements in order to qualify for the submission of proposal.

·         be GTMP trained Ophthalmologist and who received refresher training recently (within 6 months)

·         be well versed in eye care and related community based research and surveys;

·         possess a minimum of certificate in ophthalmology and experience in the field of Trachoma survey;

·         be familiar in producing scientific study (bio-medical or social);

·         have renewed license and have Taxpayer Registration Certificate to justify only 2% withholding tax deduction or willing to have 30% of the overall payment retained with Amref as withholding tax and ultimately paid to the appropriate government body.

• Potential consultants are invited to collect TOR for this Baseline Survey free of charge from our office or through email of amrefinethiopia@gmail.com until March 20, 2020 and can submit the proposal till March 23, 2020.
• The proposal shall include financial and technical proposals sealed in separate envelopes and submitted to Procurement department in person
