Job Description

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is present in five regions in Ethiopia, providing refugees and internally displaced people with emergency relief and help them to rebuild their lives. NRC works within the sectors of Education, Shelter, WASH, Livelihood and Food Security, ICLA (Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance), and Child Protection.   

Being an employee of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Ethiopia the WASH Technical Assistant is expected to represent NRC in a responsible manner and always act in accordance with NRC’s Code of Conduct.  

Roles & Responsibilities:

The purpose of the officer position is day to day implementation of the CC Project. Use actions words such as ensure, implement or assist for the position relevant responsibilities.

 

General responsibilities:

  • Prepare lists of items that need to be ordered;
  • Ensure that the specific stationary required for training or/and workshops is available for workshop facilitator/trainer to collect;
  • Responsible for information to and cooperation with the community and relevant authorities;
  • Responsible for coordination with other centers in cooperation with the training/learning centers’ staff;
  • Responsible for daily supervision of the training/learning centers’ support staff;
  • Writing compiling weekly, biweekly, monthly and quarterly reports;
  • Ensure that events or workshop venues are booked and that the necessary catering and stationary is available;
  • Ensure that the lists of project supplies are regularly updated and receives appropriate follow up.

 

Specific responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the daily management and coordination of training/learning Centers Activities effectively;
  • Responsible for collecting and registering daily records/statistics at the centers;
  • Responsible for security and logistic issues at the center, including safekeeping and records of all tools and materials at the centers;
  • Responsible for the attendance of the teachers/trainers at the centers. She/he can give or refuse excuse, and shall keep records of the teachers’ attendance;
  • Responsible for the continuous supervision of teaching methodology and initiate in-service training of teachers and instructors.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Competences:

Generic professional competencies:

  • University degree in Education, Business Administration, and related field
  •  Two years’ experience from working as an education staffs in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge of written and spoken English

 

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in Amharic and Afan Oromo 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Good cultural awareness and sensitivity
