ROLE PURPOSE: 

The role holder is responsible for develop and implement learning and development strategies and programs in SCI Ethiopia to help our employees advance their skills and knowledge and to deliver quality programs. The role of the learning and development manager is to fundamentally assist in the organisation’s success, by coaching and developing its people.

She/he is responsible for all learning and development interventions across the organization, which includes, but not limited to, conduct L&D need assessment, develop, facilitate and deliver L&D programs, continuous improvement and keeps records of L&D programs. Moreover, she/he will be responsible to oversee the effective implementation of Develop to Perform system.

Job specific roles and responsibilities

Develop and lead learning strategies and programs

  • Creating training programmes that are aligned with the Save the Children’s objectives and having a strong business understanding.
  • Working closely with various leaders across the organisation and having a full understanding of the organization and training requirements of different departments and units.
  • Develop annual training need assessment and follow up its implementation throughout the year.
  • Design and ensure the delivery of e-learning courses, workshops using various learning methods/approaches (e.g. coaching, job-shadowing, online training)
  • Administering L&D spending against individually allocated budget.
  • Evaluate existing learning programs, make recommendations for change, and upon approval, implement changes
  • Help managers develop their team members through career pathing.
  • Track budgets and negotiate contracts.
  • Lead and conduct periodic refreshment training as required.
  • Design and Lead “Passport to success”, new joiner’s induction system and its integration with other on boarding activities.
  • Managing Learning Management System (LMS), generates reporting and analyse training statistics to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Organize and conduct Management Development Programs (MHP) for managers.
  • Assess the success of development plans and help employees make the most of learning opportunities found in the organization.
  • Build facilitation skills for internal trainers.
  • Support all people Managers in effective implementation of Develop to perform system.  

Networking

  • Actively network with other agencies/ institutions providing trainings in country
  • Partner with other HR teams to collect and analyze learning and development needs and design effective solutions to meet business demand

Reporting and Communication

  • Support implementation of strategic decisions
  • Keeps records of all L&D activities
  • Produce periodic reports on L&D interventions
  • Perform any other activities based on Line manager’s assignment

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience

  • BA Degree in Management or relevant field, preferably Masters in relevant
  • 8 years of relevant progressive experience, out of which 3 years in managerial positions
  • experience and practice in learning and development approaches, including a good understanding of the issues that impact effective learning
  • Experience in designing training programs 
  • Proven track record in managing all aspects of learning cycle including conducting training needs analysis and evaluating impact of learning initiatives
  • Sound group facilitation skills
  • Very good communication skills
  • Extensive experience in supporting the development of organizational strategies, policies, guidelines and work processes
  • Significant experience in managing a team/program/project
  • Good knowledge in delegation and empowering others
  • Good skill in emotional intelligence
  • Good skill and experience in conflict management
  • Good interpersonal skills such as negotiation, strategic thinker, detail oriented, result oriented,
  • Very good knowledge in Matrix reporting structure
