Job Summary

The Psychosocial Support Officer provides an umbrella of care, compassion, encouragement, and support for SP national staff associates, and volunteers working at the project site. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a strong Christian witness and have a heart for staff, volunteers and the community.  Also desired is management experience and the ability to be strategic and work well in a team environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop personal relationships with patients and staff of the Mobile Medical Unit.
  • Coordinate the calendar of daily team devotions by leading sessions and scheduling speakers.
  • Oversee supply of resources in the Mobile Medical Unit Bibles, etc. and communicate restocking needs.
  • Present the Gospel and the opportunity to receive Christ for individuals arriving and assembling in the patient waiting area; Distribute Bibles to individuals who have made a decision for Christ.
  • Offer prayer, spiritual support and counseling to patients and staff of the Mobile Medical Unit.
  • Provide follow-up care as appropriate to life situations involving patients and staff. (Examples: phone call, hospital visit, personal note, care card, etc).
  • Connect patients and staff with local church contacts and/or ministry resources when requested and work with local churches to provide integration of individuals as needed.
  • Demonstrate a strong Christian witness to teammates, patients, vendors and the general public.
  • Sustain an outgoing, caring personality and represent Samaritan’s Purse in a positive and supportive manner to the general public at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

BA degree in Theology, strong theological background/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Pastoral Training and or Social Work or Counsellor experience

Skills Required

Model Christian maturity and leadership

Effective public speaking skills


Communication Skills
Ability to listen empathetically and communicate in a caring, supportive manner with individuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, patients and staff and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply spiritual perspectives to common needs with humility, sensitivity, and discernment. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and/or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
