Amref Health Africa, headquartered in Kenya, is the largest Africa based international non-governmental organization (NGO) currently running programs in over 35 countries in Africa with lessons learnt over 60 years of engagement with governments, communities and partners to increase sustainable health access in Africa.

Amref Health Africa has been active in Ethiopia since the 1960s and became fully operational as an international NGO in 2002. Amref Health Africa  partners with the Government of Ethiopia  and  local  stakeholders  to  implement  a diversified  health  project  portfolios  throughout  the country focusing on three key programmatic areas: Reproductive,  Maternal,  Neonatal, Adolescent, Youth  and Child Health (RMNAYCH); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Diseases Prevention and Control (DPC).

Gender and human resources for health are crosscutting, reflected throughout the organization’s health portfolio.  Our organization also engages in clinical outreach interventions and emergency programs including nutrition and resilience building of affected communities.

Amref Health Africa has  projects in Addis Ababa, Afar, Amhara,  Benishangul-Gumuz,  Gambella,  Oromia, SNNP, Somali  regions and  nationwide health systems  strengthening interventions focusing  the capacity  building  of  the  National  Health  Extension Program.

 

1.      Project description

1.1      Background

Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia is about to implement a project entitled “End female genital mutilation in Afar” in Afar region in three Woredas of Zone 3 such as Awash Fentale, Amibara and Argoba by the budget secured from of AECID; a Spanish agency for international development to contribute for the reduction of female genital mutilation in pastoral communities across the three districts.

The project will be implemented for a period of two years, from 1st February 2020 to 31 January 2022 in partnership with district and regional government partners. In coordination with the community, local public institutions and regional government, the project aims to achieve individual, community and government recognition that female genital mutilation is a violation of human rights of women and girls. It is designed to work with community leaders, SBAs, decision makers and regional and district authorities, WDA and in school clubs so that majority of the population would be addressed.  

Job Requirements

The potential consultant is required to meet the following minimum requirements in order to qualify for the submission of his/her proposal:

·         Previous experience in similar tasks or consultancies; applicants for bid must have experience in RMNCH  and related projects/programs monitoring, evaluation, impact assessment and data collection methods

·         Applicants shall have health related professionals with a minimum of Master’s degree in relevant fields (at least the team leader) to undertake the proposed assessment.

·         Attachment of all supportive documents with the technical and financial proposal is required.

·         Knowledge of the project area and knowledge of the local language will be considered a plus.

·         The consultant should be a registered firm and whose license has been renewed for the current Ethiopian fiscal year.

·         The proposal shall include only technical proposal and submitted to Procurement department by email.
