Consultancy: Translate MEDA’s English Gender Equality training manual into Amharic
TERMS OF REFERENCE
Organization: MEDA
Location: Bahir Dar or Addis Ababa
Level of Effort: 15 days
Period: Between July 1 and July 15
Background: MEDA/EMERTA Project
MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Associates) is an organization dedicated to creating business solutions to poverty. MEDA’s Global Affairs Canada-funded Ethiopians Motivating Enterprises to Rise in Trade and Agri-business (EMERTA) project has the objective of contributing to increased income and employment opportunities for entrepreneurs and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) focusing on three value chains: rice, vegetables and gemstones, among which gender is one of cross-cutting themes.
The project focuses on gender mainstreaming and ensures all activities and interventions benefit both men and women. Some activities are also targeted at increasing women’s participation in decision making in the household and in the community. The project is also contributing to gender equality through various awareness raising events and trainings for project clients (farmers and MSMEs) working in rice and vegetable value chains, business service providers and the project’s partners. MEDA EMERTA project works in three weredas: Fogera, Dera and Libokemkem. Trainings are provided by women, children, and youth affairs office gender experts in each wereda.
Objective of the Consultancy
General Objective
· To translate MEDA’s Gender training manual into Amharic
Specific Objective
· Adapting examples, languages and words to Ethiopian context, with a special focus on South Gonder ‘s culture, tradition and beliefs.
Expected Results
· Draft translation of Gender training manual is submitted and reviewed by MEDA staff
· The final version of Amharic translated Gender manual submitted
Scope of Work:
· Prepare the translation plan
· Submit the draft translated Amharic version
· Submit the final translated version
Job Requirements
Required Competencies
The consultants must have:
· Qualifications in one of the following fields.
o BSC/MScs in English language or related field
o BScMScs in Gender and Development studies or related field
o Experience in translation Gender manuals
o Experience and knowledge of Gender attitude, practice, and beliefs in Southern Gonder of Amhara region
· Experience of working with farmers, traders, and wholesalers.
· Excellent communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
· Excellent Amharic and English language skills.

Proposal SubmissionInterested applicants should provide the following:
§ Cover letter and current resume/CV with copies of supporting documents. The cover letter must demonstrate the applicant’s understanding of and interest in the subject matter, describe the applicant’s capability for completing the assignment, and examples of previous experience with similar activities (maximum two pages).
§ Technical proposal or Work plan which shows the number of days for translation
§ Financial information in breakdown which includes daily professional rate/fees and budget to accomplish the task (Perdiem is as per MEDA rate, transportation will be covered by MEDA as per finance policy and should not be included in the proposal)
§ The consultant is expected to submit the document within a month period. (the number of days required should not be more than 26 days)
§ A writing sample of a similar document
