Coordinator for COVID 19 measures (Piecework)

Capacity Building in the Field of Training for Health Care Specialists and Technicians (CaNBMET) Programme 

 

Background

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) together with the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) is currently implementing the project „Capacity Development for Health Professionals and Biomedical Technicians“ (CaNBMET). The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It aims at improving the practical training for selected health staff in Nekemte and west Oromia Region, by supporting Nekemte Health Science College, Nekemte Polytechnic College, Nekemte Specialized Hospital and the Nekemte Regional Biomedical workshop technically and in teaching skills. Furthermore, it advises the regional and federal level in terms of biomedical equipment management.

The German Government has now provided additional funding for COVID 19 prevention and control measures in Ethiopia, which will be focusing on the same region and will be implemented by WHO. Interventions will include support to health facilities and laboratories with training and procurement of equipment and consumables, especially for infection prevention and control, testing, surveillance and communications.

Responsibilities and Duties  

The Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating and supporting the implementation of the COVID 19 activities under the GIZ contract in close collaboration with CaNBMET team
  • Liaising with stakeholders in “COVID 19 Response” and ensure proper communication between CaNBMET, Government partners and non-governmental actors
  • Monitoring the implementation of the activities and documentation of case studies and lessons learned.

Duties:

Coordination:

  • Supporting and advising the GIZ CaNBMET partner institutions and team in and around Nekemte in coordinating the implementation
  • Organizing and facilitating review meetings to discuss challenges and progress in COVID 19 management in implementation zones
  • Supporting the linkages of the COVID 19 measures with the CaNBMET project activities, especially in practical training, biomedical equipment management, and infection prevention and control
  • Representing GIZ CaNBMET in relevant local and zonal COVID 19 response planning and implementation meetings and discussions.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Regularly monitoring of the implementation components and reporting to CaNBMET (GIZ and partner organizations)
  • Organizeing/supporting joint supportive supervision by involving the key health partners at zonal and woreda level.
  • Conducting regular site visits and collaborate closely with CaNBMET’s actual programme implementation 
  • Supporting communication of implementing partners with the project
  • Documenting lessons learnt, best practices and case studies
  • Contributing to the project monitoring and strategic discussions

Other duties/additional tasks

  • Performing other duties and tasks at the request of management 
  • Immediately reporting all problems involving activities and regulations to his/her superior

Required qualifications, competences and experience

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in public health, nursing or related field of study 
  • At least 5 years of proven professional experience with health interventions, especially Public Health Emergency Management and related coordination tasks  
  • Experience in facilitation of review meetings and workshops, with different stakeholders like government, NGO, UN
  • Ability to work independently and in a strategic way
  • Very good reporting skills, ability to collect case studies and stories
  • Good networking skills and team spirit
