The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German state-owned company, which is working in the field of technical and international development cooperation in more than 100 countries worldwide.

“The Programme Training/Job Partnerships and Support to the Middle-size Enterprises” is a program that has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in December 2018 until November 2021 (three years) and it is the first project phase under the special initiatives of the German Development Cooperation.

The aim is that “Enterprises in selected sectors are showing employment growth” and the programme has the following areas of intervention:

1) Capacity Development of the Ethiopian Medium Size Enterprises;

2) Improvement of the employment conditions for sustainable job creation and employment-related growth of the production in the industrial parks;

3) Creation of conducive environment for cooperation between Ethiopian and      international companies.

The program thereby acts as a facilitator between the project partner, German Development Cooperation and relevant stakeholders and therefore uses appropriate learning formats to promote networking and the sharing of knowledge among partners.

GIZ seeks a qualified candidate for the position of

     Position:                          Junior SME Advisor

Responsibilities

  • Support development of ideas and identification of topics based on needs and interests of the relevant counterparts of the programme’s partners
  • Support research and study activities on topics relevant for the programme.
  • Technical preparation of content in the context of learning or exchange formats in cooperation with other team members and partners
  • Methodological conceptualization of learning and exchange formats in close cooperation with other team members and partners
  • Preparation of terms of references, concept notes and other relevant documents for the implementation of the relevant work package for the programme components.
  • Summarizing results of formats and continue technical discussions with partners based on results
  • Any other tasks as and when advised by the deputy head of the Programme or duly assigned deputy.

Tasks:

Based on above-mentioned main responsibilities, the junior Advisor will have the following main tasks: 

Supporting development and implementation of technical priority areas

  • Development of ideas and identification of topics based on needs and interests of the relevant counterparts of the programme’s partners
  • Support of research and study activities on topics relevant for the programme.
  • Technical preparation of content in the context of learning or exchange formats in cooperation with other team members and partners
  • Methodological conceptualization of learning and exchange formats in close cooperation with other team members and partners
  • Preparation of terms of references, concept notes and other relevant documents for the implementation of the relevant work package for the programme components.
  • Summarizing results of formats and continue technical discussions with partners based on results

Overall tasks

Supporting Networking and Cooperation

  • puts together an overview of project/programme activities, deadlines etc. and presents this regularly at team meetings
  • supports project monitoring and updates information on project progress, documents and reports regularly on the status of results
  • assists with recording and documenting the results of all activities
  • draws up media analyses, participates in fora and public hearings on issues directly connected with the project/programme
  • assists with planning, coordinating and documenting meetings, workshops, seminars and other project activities with a focus on technical aspects
  • orders and distributes PR materials on the project/programme as well as GIZ PR materials
  • assists with PR work for the project/programme
  • assists short-term experts assigned to projects/programmes in completing their tasks.

Knowledge Management

  • Documentation of exchange formats implemented by the programme focusing on knowledge sharing and circulation of lessons learnt
  • Using online platforms to share and distribute information and lessons learnt from the program and other relevant sources.
  • Preparation of reports (of meetings, workshops, etc.), presentation or audio-visual materials and publications that address different stakeholders (i.e. relevant counterparts’ ministries, GIZ, BMZ, etc.)

Management and Coordination Tasks

  • Development of project ideas and designs, and support of project planning
  • Monitoring project progress in general and activities and impacts in particular; reporting back to the person in charge of overall program monitoring
  • Development and implementation of the operational plan and activities of the program in close coordination with the team of the programme
  • Monitoring of project progress, reviewing reports and documents concerning the progress of collaborative programs, determining bottlenecks and recommending alternative courses of management action to the line manager
  • Compiling relevant information for collaborative activities and missions
  • Supporting work on communication and PR according to the programme’s needs
  • Managing administrative and financial tasks in close collaboration with administrative and financial units in the programme and if required GIZ Country Office.

 

 


 

Job Requirements

Educational qualifications

  • University degree in development studies, international relations, business, economics or other related field of studies

Professional Experience

  • initial experience (internship or similar) in the area  

Additional Knowledge

  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office, Access or other database programme)
  • Good knowledge of the European language widely used in the country, ideally a knowledge of German  experience of project management and research
  • Experience in an area related to the project’s/programme’s requirements is desirable
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures
