Who we are: Grarbet Tehadiso Mahber (GTM) is an indigenous non-profit and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to improve lives of rural communities in central Ethiopia. GTM was established in 1996 and legally registered with the Charity and Civil Society Agency (Charity Registration Number 0277). GTM provides rehabilitation and medical services to people with visual impairment, hard of hearing, post-polio paralysis and Epilepsy in the SNNP and Oromia regions using its two specialized centers in Butajira and Batu/Zeway.

What we are looking for: An optometrist who can ensure excellence in the provision of basic eye care services with emphasis to the management of uncorrected refractive error and the provision of spectacles. The optometrist is expected to:

  • Run daily optometry clinic according to schedule provided by Butajira or Batu eye care center program coordinator/medical director.
  • Organize, coordinate and lead optometry-led outreach services to GTM project areas
  • Be responsible for handling and upkeep of equipment, instruments and other property in his/her care
  • Lead school teachers training with emphasis to basic vision testing of students to identify those with refractive errors.
  • Supervise and monitor the optical workshop including the work of optical technicians.
  • Monitor the stock status of the optical workshop store and submit appropriate and timely requests for procurement.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports. 

Terms of employment

  • The position will be based in Batu/Zeway and Butajira
  • Initial contract will be for one year with a high possibility of renewal

 

Job Requirements

  • A university degree in Optometry with two years of experience
  • Competence in TT surgery is a plus
  • Ability to communicate in English (Written and verbal)
  • Capability to function well in a team and also independently
  • Basic literacy of MS Office applications
  • Experience working with NGOs would be an asset
