The Fred Hollows Foundation, an international NGO founded in 1992 has been a driving force in the development and implementation of blindness prevention programs in some of the poorest and most isolated regions in the world. Currently operating in over 25 countries throughout Africa, Asia, Australasia and Middle East. The Foundation is working to end avoidable blindness.

Ethiopia is one of The Foundations largest funded programs, focused on the Elimination of Trachoma.  Up until now our program has focused on the complex and direct delivery of services to help those in need.  With a strong foundation in place, we are now looking to enter into a new phase of our programming building on the work that we have already done.

About the Position

The Project Manager ASCEND is in charge of the development, co-ordination and management of The Fred Hollows Foundation ASCEND project in Oromia, Ethiopia.  Responsible for overall leadership, management and technical direction and oversight for the DFID funded ASCEND project. Specifically, responsible for effective planning, implementation, coordination, and day-to-day management of the project activities. S/he will be responsible for ensuring that all systems and resources (human, material and financial), policies and procedures are in place and followed. Engage in high-level strategic, planning and networking activities International Trachoma Initiative (ITI), Caritas, EPSA (Ethiopian Pharmaceuticals Supply Agency), Oromia Regional Health Bureau(ORHB) and other relevant stakeholders including the private sector.

Specific responsibilities include:   

  • Provide technical guidance and direction to ASCEND Project Coordinator, Project M&E, Project Finance and Partners  in the development of annual operational plans.
  • Oversee the implementation of planned project activities in accordance with the project design document, and annual and strategic plans.
  • Lead the development of standard operating procedures and protocols for ASCEND project planning, implementation, review and monitoring, documentation and sharing of lessons learned 

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, we are seeking someone with the following experience and skills.

  • Minimum of 10 years working experience preferably with reputable NGOs.
  • Masters Degree in relevant field (Public Health, Social sciences, International development or related fields) from a recognized institution.
  • Knowledge of program design, program management, budget development and monitoring of Trachoma programs.
  • Knowledge of Resource mobilization and management.
