Project Officer for GAC funded COVID 19 project

 

Amref Health Africa is an African-led international health development organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa to bring critical health services to remote communities, Amref Health Africa envision to bringing lasting health change for African more than 30 countries across the continent. With a focus on women and children, the organization strives to overcome the most critical health challenges facing the continent: maternal and child health, HIV & TB, malaria, water and sanitation and health systems strengthening. Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia has been working in Ethiopia since 2002 in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health implementing a range of projects in maternal, neonatal and child health, reproductive health, health systems strengthening, health workforce development, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases across the country, supported by a wide range of multilateral and bilateral donors, corporate and foundations. 

Amref Health Africa would like to recruit Project Officer based in Addis Ababa with frequent travel to Amhara and SNNP regions implementation sites and will report to Project Manager.

Purpose of the Job:

The project officer will work 100% of his/her time in the project. He/she will monitor day to day activity of the project and participate in project implementation and monitoring of the activities.     

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing weekly, monthly and quarterly detail implementation work plan
  • Implementing project activities together with district health office, urban health extension workers , schools representatives and other relevant project partners
  • Participating in site selection for hand washing facilities construction
  • Follow up the construction of hand washing facilities
  • Prepare and submit weekly construction supervision reports
  • Collect and assess the necessary information related to WASH from health facilities, schools, community etc. 
  • Facilitate the establishment of Amref Youth Advisory Parliament (AYAP) and strategically engage them for risk communication and community engagement related activities 
  • Strengthening the capacity of AYAP members through facilitating training and mentor-ship
  • Facilitate and lead awareness raising radio programs 
  • Conduct assessment and facilitate the procurement of personal protective equipment for COVID 19 prevention
  • Facilitate and follow the implementation of HEWs digital training on COVID 19 and essential health services
  • Liaise with MoH for the implementation of Leap, mobile based training on COVID 19 and essential health services 
  • Effect payment according to Amref health Africa’s financial policy and procedure for project activities
  • Identify project beneficiaries and keep the necessary documentation, check list and registration
  • Participate on project implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the activities
  • Supervise 2 project assistants basing in Amhara region Debrebirhan town and SNNPR, Jinka town
  • Assist the project in any emerging issue as requested by the supervisor

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • BSC in public health or other related health/social fields   
  • Additional training in SBCC is advantageous. 
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Emergency and RMNCH project implementation.
  • NGO experience is an advantage
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Communication & writing skills in both Amharic & English
  • Excellent computer skills: MS Windows, MS Word and Excel,
  • In addition, the ideal candidate must have strong analytical, problem solving and networking skills.
  • Be a team player and communicator and work under minimal supervision.

 

 Terms of employment: 8 months, possibility of extension based on availability of fund and performance
